I have the tripletred GY Forteras and love them particularly in wet conditions. Got em based upon Cons Reports 2005 review of All Season passenger tires... rated No 1 for the tripletred passenger tires so I got the SUV Fortera version. No hydroplaning and even better than my snows for water siping...

I had the GY Fortera's HL's before based upon Consumer Rep's SUV/truck No 1 rating in 2004 who compare them side by side for wet, dry, handling braking emergency etc etc objectively and found them good too. I had the stock GoodYear ST, GSA and also the Michelin Arctic Ice snows. The Trips grip as well as my snows and are very quiet. I highway mostly and city with little or no off roading.

My advice is that the ratings on the tire shop sites are fine but are subjective to the individual based upon their past tire usage and don't measure them objectively... it's like I like KJ's while others like Escapes... all opinions and everybody has one...

Pix available of GoodYear ST, GSA, Fortera HL and Fortera Tripletreds and also the Mich Arctic Ice snows if you like if somebody would post em for me....

It is all about the rubber as I feel they are a vital part of the vehicles safety systems. There are only a few square inches of contact between your vehicle and the road... so I rely heavily on Cons Report testing so don't cheap out on tires.

They also rated Mich X Ice as the top snow. The Lattitude X Ice is for SUVs.

I like consumer Reports as well but couldn't disagree more on their low ranking of General Grabber AT2's in the same article. Maybe it is because they are so much more aggressive than any of the other tires in the test, but I love mine while they basically say they are unsafe.

The General AT2s are crap.

The only reason anybody thinks they're any good is because they replaced a garbage tire in almost all cases.

What is your basis for saying they are junk? I have used numerous other all terrain tires from Goodyear, Cooper, Yokohama, and BFG and the only ones that are as good are BFG AT's, which are significantly more expensive.

I just got back from a 400 mile trip through Vermont where they handled 75 mph driving on wet twisty mountain roads, mud deeper than the sidewalls, and deep slushy snow with no complaints. What else can you ask of an all terrain?

And, they have about 15,000 miles with little to no visible wear.

Since you don't seem to think I know what I am talking about even though I've owned 7 Jeeps and other 4x4's here's what others say:

But oh so true  .

There just a BFG AT knockoff, which the BFG's are not much better then the SR-A's in my opinion(and yes I have run the BFG's,worst tires ever made  ).

Have any of you haters actually run the tire?

If not what is your basis to say they are junk? It seems like these tires personally offended some people on this forum.

Most of the reviews I have seen have been postitive. The few bad reviews have been on heavy trucks for poor or uneven wear.

I have these tires on both of my KJ's for a combined 25k+ miles and am very happy with them. I have used numerous other similar all terrain tires from many manufacturers and these rank among the best, and are a bargain to boot.

They are not mud terrains. They are not highway terrains. They work moderately well on all terrains, wear well, and are cheap. We had over 70 inches of snow in Massachusetts this winter and they never let me down, they work well in sand, and they are reasonably quiet on the highway.

What else do you want from an AT?

tjkj2002: Have you ever heard of being a little tactful? There are ways of getting a point across without bringing in a persons intelligence. Saying they must have had garbage tires before could/should be considered an insult to one's intelligence, ie: not smart enough to pick out a good product. There is a good OLD book called "How To Win Friends And Influence People".

I'm not personally offended-- its just a tire -- but people like me use this forum to make decisions about what products to buy based on the real world experiences of fellow Jeepers.

He has burned me twice on posts about the Grabbers. I'm still waiting to hear what experience he bases his dislike of these tires on.

Otherwise people will be steered away from a solid product that is a good value.

Honestly Kayadog..I had some National Commando's 245/70/R16's on my KJ and I liked them they were an All-Terrain get 'er done tire. Now as far as General's go You might have gotten a hold of a good set my friend. My dad bought some when he got his GMC Sierra 1500 and he blew out 2 front tires on the highway and they had less then 4,000 miles on them. After that he wouldn't even look at a General. Really Kayadog it all depends on who the person is that has them. I mean if you like them and think they are good then that's great to hear because you are reviewing them.

Thanks lil black liberty.

Are you sure your dad was running the newer Grabber AT2 design, not another version of the Grabber? The older General Grabber AT's were poor performers.

I'm not the only one that likes them. Here's the Tirerack survery results:
