What is the wheel backspacing on the Liberty? 2003 Renegade in my case, dunno if it makes a difference. When buying new rims, is it imperative to have the exact same backspacing or can it vary slightly one way or the other? I know the bolt pattern is 5 x 4.5 and the lugs are 1/2 x 20, but is there anything else I need to know when replacing the wheels? I'm looking into a Franky and thinking 'bout moving up to 17" rims. I like the '03 Patriot Edition wagon wheels and also the Mickey Thompson Classic Locks. Thanks for your help!

5.5 for stock renegade alloys

i think the 17" alloys are .5 wider and have a 6" backspace

if you're switching to steel there's a ton of discussion on steel backspacing for 15" 16" and 17" throughout the tire section

I think that all of the liberty OEM wheels are 5.5" BS, regardless of the rim diameter. If you go for the Frankenlift, you should be able to go with 4" BS and maybe 3.5" BS with some fender trimming.

Ok, so if I don't lift it, can I still use a wheel with a 4" backspace, or will it rub on the inside fender? I really like the Mickey Thomson Classic Lock 468421

Nope. You gotta lift to use 4" BS. I tried it. I tried 235/75-15 (slightly smaller diameter than stock) with 4" BS 15x7 wheels and it rubbed like crazy. That is the reason I added the Daystar lift in the beginning.
