I have posted this question previously and never have gotten any responses so I'll give it another shot. I'm debating which size I should go with next, 245/70/16 or 255/65/16? The tire will be a General Grabber AT2. I don't really go off roading and have stock height. I prefer the 255 since it's wider and the sidewall is not changing so no speedometer/fuel waste issues. Please let me know your thoughts, pros & cons.

I would stick to stock size, less problems and no worry about mpg's or power loss which both of your choices will lower mpg's and power some from the added weight.

I say 245/70/16. It is the biggest size you can fit witout rubbing and will help correct the speedo error to some degree. The 255/65/16 is actually of a smaller diameter that the stock 225/75/16 and will make the speedo read even less accurate than it already does. The 255 may also be too wide for you rims depnding which ones you have??

225/75 is 29.287 dia.
255/65 is 29.051 dia.
245/70 is 29.504 dia.

Stay under 30.0 to avoir rubbing. Use this tirecalc to help size tires:

I have the stock rims. I also found this website; not sure how accurate it is.

Go with the 245/70 I think the 255's are going to be too wide for the stock rim... maybe not but I think they are just on the fringe of ok and not ok for the stock rim. I think 255's will rub at full turn and they are not as tall so your speedo will read higher. 24570's are closer to the stock 225/75 and will be very close to on with the speeedo.

I have the 245's on mine for just over a year and they are a good size for our Jeep's. mine look good, fill the wheel wells, don't rub and do well off road what few times I get to go. and were good in the snow.

You may have trouble finding a tire place to put that wider size on too. I had trouble getting that size on mine at first I picked a tire at sam's club but they had some book that said 225/75R16 was the correct size and nothing else so they would not sell me my selection and mount them, they would not even sell me the wider 235/70 tire that was on the jeep at the time and worn out. I had to go to a indepent dealer and they were more than happy to do what I wanted with in reason.

I finally ordered the tires...245/70/16. Tirerack has the General AT2's on back order so they'll contact me once they leave the warehouse. :( Can't wait to get them. I'll post pics once installed.
