Post subject:  Is Nitrogen Filled Tires Bad?

I came across a post somewhere a while ago that mentioned that nitrogen is a nono for offroading, can anyone help me understand why (if its true) as i got 33psi of it in my tires right now?
thanks.

the air we breathe is already almost 80% nitrogen

if air is going to leak, it's going to leak, i don't care what it's made up of, can't really come up with a smart donkey answer as to why it wouldn't be fine offroad

just don't go payin for nitrogen refills, buy a soda instead

well thanks for the reply i guess its not so bad after all
onroad its great no expansion with high speeds and much softer ride (helps a bit on our crappy roads :( )

The green stem caps they use really looks cool with my spinner hub cabs. :D :D

Aircraft tires are filled with nitrogen to help reduce chance of tire fires from overheated brakes. The Nitrogen molecules are bigger than Oxygen molecules so in theory the leak slower. Nitrogen also is dryer than air so should reduce corrosion.

Unless they give it away for free, I'm not biting. :2cents:

It's silly for offroad because when you air down you have to pay to get them aired back up.... Nitrogen fill is serious enthusiast FAIL!

Dont quote me but I had a big autocross racer tell me filling regular wheels with Nitrogen is somewhat worthless because you never get all of the air out. He said they make wheels with 2 valve stems so you can push the air out while filling with nitrogen. I guess when I thought about it, it made sense. Not that anyone was gonna make me pay to fill my tires up in the first place.

I suppose..

serious enthusiasts bring a trailer with a few welding bottles full of nitrogen for the re-air up :P

I also heard it was because Nitrogen reacted less to temperature change, in other words it didn't change the tire pressure as much when the tire heated up (no use for us off-road).

Unless you own a fighter jet or do 200mile+ endurance races at 150mph+ there is no need for 12% more nitrogen in your tires then what is already in there.

That nitrogen that you pay for is far from pure nitrogen, only about 90%-92% so you still have other gases mixed in.
