long-tall-Texan: I got the order in early because shipping charges are bound to go up with the price of fuel going sky high. I just now went out to check my tread depth on the Howlers. Down to 1/8th. inch. Getting kind of low! But, I'll squeeze some more miles out of them!

Mine came in Tuesday and they look great. You can't even tell they aren't the real BFG ATs!

I also asked the info@treadwright... What is the consensus on re-treads on the road? My old tire shop (they pissed me off too many times) says its illegal and dangerous. Are they just trying to sell me tires?

Yep. Got it for a steal on eBay.

Yes. They are uninformed, and just trying to sell you their tires instead. Treadwright tires are 100% legal in all states. They are very particular about the casings they use for the retreads. I have searched all over the web, and have yet to find a bad review, or a report of them seperating or coming apart like re-caps on semi truck tires. Treadwright does not use the same manufacturing process as others do on truck re-caps.

I highly trust their tires as much s any other new set of tires. So much that I have a set of the Sentinel all terrains on my wife's suburban. If I did not trust them 100%, after doing a ton of research, I would never have put them on a car that my wife and kids are in on a daily basis.

How about this one, any real draw backs to holding off and keeping my stock wheels with these new tires? Backspacing issues?

I have been running 245/75R/16 Crawlers by Treadwright for 2 1/2yr.-40,000m+ . They are wheeled at 20lbs., driven on road at 35-50psi depending on how I feel. They balanced with less than an ounce of weight per tire. They are mounted on stock steel wheels,I ran them for awhile before I lifted, they rubbed a little, still hit sway bar at full lock. Good tires.

Not a salesman. Just a happy customer. I had the Pumas before (called the ATG at that time) They were a great tread. Very good on road manners. The Wardens are a copy of the BFG All Terrain. Very popular. I am sure either one will make you a happy camper.

A couple of thoughts based on personal experience:

1) The Wardens are nearly as loud on the road as the Guard Dogs. Both hummmm pretty good at 45-65 MPH. I'd take the Guard Dogs for their increased traction.

2) The tread SHAPE is a copy of popular designs (BFG KO, Goodyear MT/R, etc.). However, the tread SPACING and lug size is smaller than the name brands, hence it's not an exact copy (which is how they legally get away with it probably). This means that the Warden tire doesn't have as much void between the lugs as a BFG KO new tire does, and will suck even worse in the mud and snow. This is another reason I'd go with the Guard Dogs. They are an aggressive all-terrain. They can hold up OK in mud, but are good for the street too.

If your interested in retread info - this is the NHTSA report from the retread.org website
really good overview on the entire process.

https://trib.site-ym.com/resource/resmgr/govt_pdf_s/commercial_medium_tire_debri.pdf

as to
"Treadwright does not use the same manufacturing process as others do on truck re-caps."

I have not seen any data to support that statement - and based on the NTHSA report - I'd put Michelin and Goodyear truck tire retread operations as 'State of the Art' in retreading.

and regularly checking your tire pressure - is still much, more important than whether tires are retread or original.
