TPMS Valve Stems

I have a quick question for the gurus here. Is it possible to replace the stem portion only of the TPMS sensor? One of mine has a split in the threads where the valve cap would screw on, and I can't get an accurate pressure reading using a standard tire gauge, nor can I fill up the tire with air (keeps leaking out of the split in the threads).

You can get the valve stem nut which is what I think you need from:

If that is not what you need then Dorman makes a kit. You will have to do a little research to get the correct one for your brand of TPMS as there were two systems used on Liberty's depending on the year.

No you must replace the whole sensor.

Maybe so, maybe not. Might depend on the TPMS he has.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Valve Kit by Dorman - OE Solutions - 97 - part# 974-000. Believe it works with Schrader TPMS also.

However, since you have to break the wheel down to replace the valve stem it is just as easy and may be even quicker (labor savings) to just replace the whole sensor. It it were me, I would just place the whole sensor and be done with it.

I think it was rockauto.com where I saw new TPMS sensors for $29.95. You can get them fairly cheap on there. I would definitely look into that and not go to the dealership.

Any TPMS sensor in a KJ requires the whole replacement if the stem breaks.Some nissians you can just replace the stem and newer GM/Fords/Subaru's have rubber TPMS stems.

I probably should have clarified that I have a 2008 KK, and the valve stem is one of the aluminum ones that looks like it just screws on.

Yup, tjkj2002 is right, you have to replace the complete sensor. Try Amazon also to see what price you can get.

Everyone,
I just wanted to chime in here. you CAN replace all parts of the tpms kit other the than the sensor itself. Meaning the core, nut, bushing and the metal stem can all be replaced. The carry all the parts at Orileys. I just replaced the core and the threaded stem on two different wheels.
