Does anyone know what is the max tire size that will fit without ANY rubbing on a stock '06 Renegade?

We are going to be getting BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO's for our Liberty and want to get the biggest tires that will fit.

Has anyone ever used wheel spacers such as:
http://www.rocky-road.com/kjspace.html
Do these work well and are they safe? Also, what size tires will clear properly with those spacers??

Thanks for the advice!!
:)

I dont know the answers to your questions. But I do know that if you are going to go ahead and do all that you should just go ahead and lift it up on some 32's :-)r

My educated guess would be 235/75/r16 w/o lift (biggest stock size) or 245/75/r16 with a lift. I dont think the 245's will fit w/o a lift.

Why does everyone keep saying that 235/75R16 is a stock size? It is NOT a stock size, and I'm reasonably confident that it won't fit.

2005/2006 Liberty came with the following two tire sizes as options:

225/75R16 All-Season
235/70R16 All-Terrain

Older liberties, from what I gather, are also available with a 215 width (pizza-cutters).

From This Site, you can see how to read a tire. The first number is the actual width, the 235/70R16 tire is 9.2" wide, while the 225/75R16 is 8.8" wide (215 is 8.4").

The second number (70 or 75) is the aspect ratio (height as a percentage of width). For the 235/70R16, this gives you 70% of the 235mm width, which is 6.5" (6.5+16+6.5 = 29). For the 225/75R16, this gives you 75% of 225mm, which is 6.6" (6.64 + 16 + 6.64 = 29.3)

Effectively the "Largest" stock tire size depends on who you ask. If diameter is the measure of largest, that means that the 29.3" diameter tire (225/75R16) is the largest. If you mean width, the 9.2" wide (235/70R16) is the largest.

Many people are reporting that they are able to run a 245/70R16 without a lift. This is a 29.5" tire, which is not all that much larger than the 29.3" tire that is available stock, but is a lot wider (9.6").

A 235/75R16 tire would be 9.2" wide and 29.9" in diameter, a full inch larger than the 235/70R16 that actually come stock. I am reasonably confident that a 30" tire will not easily fit on an unlifted liberty without a lot of hassle (or unless you pick a very narrow tire). Somebody correct me if I am wrong (especially if you are running 235/75R16 tires)

</rant>

Sorry, didn't mean to attack anyone directly, I just want to correct the mis-information that sometimes crops up with regard to tire sizing

I have 245/70 16 Destination A/Ts on my unlifted '05 and they fit with absolutely no rubbing except at full flex in the rear.

I still have some BFGoodrich All-Terrains that are 225/70/16 that I'm trying to sell. They are not the biggest size you can fit but they do really well and stuff even better! PM me if your interested.

So actually, one should ask:

"What is the largest diameter tire I can fit without rubbing?"

OR

"What is the widest tire I can fit without rubbing?"

OR

"What is the largest width AND diameter tire I can fit w/o rubbing?". (Which is what I think most people mean)

Correct?

Now, how 'bout answers? :?:

Thanks, Se7enLC. You're right about those tire sizes. When I go up in tire size (right now I have 235/70 R16) I will be going with 235/75 R16, which is quite a bit bigger in diameter, almost as big as the 245/75 R16. I got the 1.25" wheel spacers from Rocky Road, and when they arrived I was surprised to see they were Spider Trax units. I only got two and put them on the rear. I like them and they have been doing great for a year or so I guess. They give the rear more width and look better. The stock tires stuff well with them on and the larger tires should still stuff because they are the same width, but the larger diameter might be a factor. I don't think they'd work on the front because of rubbing when turning, but I don't know. I guess I should take one off the back and find out! Anyhow, that's my nickel.
I forgot to mention: I have a 2.5" lift.

Wheel Spacers

Have been running them on the back for about a month now. Been on two 4wd runs and no issues. I purchased these, same material but A LOT cheaper. Fast shipping and good quality.

Lookup this item number on ebay: 8039486253

Sorry about the mis-information above. My tires ARE 235/70/r16's NOT 235/75/r16's. I was going on what I thought I had. Well I actually drove my KJ in today, so I looked at lunch, and by God, I have the 235/70's. Sorry...

I have 245/75 and you can tell a difference in the total hight of the jeep.. but w/o the lift the tires rub real bad on turns and bad bumps.. so if you get like 245/75's you need a lift.

I have 245/75 AT2's with no lift and they don't rub at all, even at full lock. Although it is close, I still haven't been able to make it rub. I am sure they will but so far nothing.
