Hi,

Sorry to put it mainly to the CRD 2.5 owners, but please feel free anyone chime in too, I would like to know what tyres you are using?

I currently after my lift I am am running 245/75R16 MT, but I am looking to get another set ( to repalce the stock 235/70R16 o have) to run arround all the time and use the MT only for play days?

I am looking to fit again or 245/75R16 or 265/70R16, I am really tempted to go 265/75R16 as I think there is enough room now, but I think it might kill the KJ ( my diff rations are 4.10 as standard).

Please any Ideas & Advise

Firstly it doesn't really matter whether you have the 2.5 or the 2.8 (or even the 3.7) as far as tyre sizes go.

245/75R16s are a pretty common choice down under - you need at least a 2" lift to make them work and a lot of guys also hammer flat the pinch weld at the back of the wheel arch to give sufficient clearance. You may still get some rubbing on full lock.

You may be able to fit 265/75R16s but I expect that you would need a bigger lift and a lot of trimming to make them work, and even then they would rub somewhere on lock. Personally I would advise against trying.

You already have the 4.10 diffs which is a bonus. If you have an auto gearbox then you need to get the computer reflashed for the correct revs/km, otherwise your transmission will be confused and try to change gear at the wrong time.

Hi,
thank you for your answer. I have a 3.5 inc lift, i am sitting at 22 inc at the front & 22.5inc at the back. I guess then I better stick with 245/75R16 or if I find a narrow 265/70R16, but i know from what i have read and seen here that 235/85R16 or 265/75R16 will fit (yes i will need to pound the pinch weld), but I just want to know if the CRD 2.5 has enough power, most of the people running them have 2.8 with 4.10 gears.

Yeah, the mighty little 2.5 CRD certainly handles the bigger tyres. I have 3-4 inch lift and run 31/10.5/15s in a Mickey Thompson MTZ on 15in steelies, they are a 15x7 zero offset. I am also now running Mickey Thompon STZ 265/70/16s on my original Jeep Alloys, and they are great. I have heaps of power (I do have a custom free flow exhaust - made a heap of extra low dow grunt) With the MTZ's on I get around the 12lts per 100km, with the STZ's on I'm getting 10.5 lts per 100km. Stll have great power, drives up hill just as it did with no lift and standard tyres.

You've only at a 3 inch lift with sitting at 22 inches in the front ( stock is 19 inches) I'd stay with 245-75-16s or 265-70-16s
265-75s will be a little big for where you are

Yes, I have sort of come to the same conclusion myself,it was more out of curiosity. I know it can be done and it has been done, but I haven't seen anyone with a CRD 2.5 ( well it looks like there is one in Italy on 235/85R16 and he is happy with it, I will ask him). Still deciding if to go 245/75 or 265/70 they will be AT as I have a set of MT already.
Quick question will I need spacers if I fit 265/70? I am going to use the stock alloys that i think are 16x7.

If your using the stock rims, then yes spacers will more then likely be needed. When i first got my tires, i was sitting at 21.5 and the 265-70-16's would only rub at certain angles under the right suspension articulation in front. But before i got spacers for them, would would rub, HARD on the sway bar. 1.25 spacers took the rub off the sway bar, but slightly increased the rub where the pinch weld is.. Its very minimal and I wouldnt second guess putting another pair of 265's on. 245's look like pizza cutters to me :2cents:

I am from UK not long been down under, i got my tyres and wheel combo done via a search on auto trader, as things are so tight for the traders at the moment in the UK I was able to squeeze a very tidy deal out of silverline wheel and Tyre I got crager 15x8 and bighorn and a great price. I know its a bit of a trek 01926 490002 is the No, or try tyres direct they do some sharp deals as well. My self I run 31.10.55.15s and not to much of a problem heat gun gets plastics sorted. :2cents:

Hi dmuddy,

I have now changed my tyres and stayed with 245/75R16 and got a new set of Grabber AT New style not the AT2. I also squized a good deal out of them, got about £60 off them.
Hope you are enojoying life Downunder.
