Tire Pressure

Somebody should make a sticky about what tire pressure to run based on your application...Just a suggestion.

What tire pressure should I be using for highway & city driving, no towing, with 245/75/16's for the best fuel economy?

That would be vehicle specific if not running OEM rims and OEM tires(or same as OEM,size and rating).If running non-OE sized tires or different load range,extra weight like armor,and non-OE rims will all change the proper psi.

When my KJ was pretty stock(no lift,full skid plates) and running "E" range 245/75 MT/R's(on OE rims) 38psi was the best for my KJ at that time and combo.When I ran 225/75 MT/R's(on OE rims) with the same as stuff I had to bump it to 48 psi.After being lifted and heavy modded and weighing 5500lbs I ran "D" range 265/75 MT/R's on 16x7 steel rims and 38psi was great for that combo.When I switched from the 265/75 MT/R for Interco Trxus MT's which are also "D" range I had to run 43psi for best results on the same 16x7 rims.

But how do you know when you're at the right pressure?

What do other people run with 245/75/16's with a lift, no bumpers etc?

Do a chalk test if you want to, that will show you if you are too high or too low
Mine I just experiment until I find the right pressure for me and how I drive etc
With so many different tires/either P rating, C,E plus wheels etc No one can tell you an exact tire pressure just for you .

with my setup i stay between 38-42 PSI. But i also have a CRD.

My jeep has 245/70/16's on stock rims. I also keep mine at 38-40psi. That gives me the best ride, handling, and fuel economy. For me, anything less feels like it is dragging and is sloppy in corners. Anything more bounces too much. That's my :2cents:

Since I am mostly stock and I run stock type tires and stock wheels, I run mine at the suggested 34 psi.

with my setup(signature) i always try to keep them on 36psi. And i drive in gravel and pretty damage tarmac road.

I have General Grabber AT2s 245/75/16's Load Range E 10 ply with stock Renegade wheels. Anybody using a similar tire that has a specific tire pressure they use?

mochodurazo- it sounds like your set-up is pretty close to mine.

I been running 34 psi too with 245/70/16

For daily driving when our Rig is devoid of all additional gear and equipment I've got the pressure at 36-38 psi.
When fully loaded up with all the recovery gear, camping equipment, and an additional 14 gallons of gas, I've got it dialed in between 40-42 psi; sometimes a little more depending on the load being carried.

I have just switched to the General ATs and have been wondering about tire pressure myself. It is obviously tempting to increase the pressure over the manufacturer recommendation (better gas mileage -diesel mileage in my case, better performance), but aren't all of you with higher then the manufacturer-recommended 33 psi worried about excessive wear in the middle section of your tread?

Hi,
i run my General Grabber AT (not AT2) 245/75R16 at 34 psi. The KJ feels okay, handels the road very well, maybe a bit to bouncy at times.

P rated tires will be require what the dorr sticker say's.It's the LT tires(C,D,and E range) that require more psi then what the door sticker say's.

I use the recommended pressure that is listed on the sidewall as a guide. I have found that with the light truck tires you can safely run from 33-44psi without any uneven wear, as long as they are properly balanced and aligned. My preference is somewhere in the middle at around 40psi. For me 33 is too soft 44 is to firm.
