There is a VERY noticeable difference between the 265/75/16 BFG KM2's and the 31x10.5 15's. The KM2's are about 1.5in taller then the duratracs... and they seem to be 'about' the same width... the 265 my be a bit wider (both on 7in wide steel wheels.)

haven't driven it yet..but i'm expecting some extra power from the smaller... lighter tires.

the 31's also make my KJ look like it has a 10inch lift and a 14in donut compared to the 265's haha.

also these comparisons are with my KM2's which have 15k miles on them... and the duratracs are brand new.

however... the duratrac's which are the 31x10.5's 15's look MUCH larger then the 245/75/16's from a rubicon i had on there for a few weeks.

Now for some snowy and icey roads to really try them out.
With the tread design plus studded they should dig really well
They look good on there , you'll get used to that size in no time!

well finally got the snow and icy roads! these tires with the studs are incredible in winter conditions!!! It's very hard not to push them to the limit... but i know driving like i dont have studded snow tires will keep my jeep out of the ditch haha. my KJ is a TANK on ice/packed snow/deep snow/slush.

RPM's are about 500-800 more at 60mph.. which puts it at about 2300 cruising at 60mph. My jeep does have about the perfect amount of power with the lighter... shorter 31x10.5's rather then the 265's. It really is a pleasure to drive now.. and i like the 3.75 backspace more then the 4in backspace (although with 265/75/16's and the 3.75 BS they would rub my beat down pinch weld.)

I would HIGHLY suggest this tire/wheel combination.. with or without the studs. The Duratracs seem to be a very nice tire so far. plus affordable. 4 new steel wheels, and new 4 studded duratracs shipped to my door for well under $900. tires would've be $20 a piece cheaper without the studs.

I run Trxus MTs in the same size and they work great. Especially in the mud and out on the trail.
Never had the pleasure of running Duratracs.

i had trxus MT's in 265/75/16's. they were an outstanding tire for about 30k miles.. then got too loud .. and kinda sketchy on slick stuff at a little less then 1/2 thread left.

those Trxus MT's were one of the best tires i've every drivin on in snow/icy condition... they were outstanding. and were GREAT in mud/heavy rain/slush. my only complaints were tread life and noise.

still plenty of tread life for my Trxus MTs. think they have 9,000 miles roughly on them?

WHERE!!?? I've been pricing Duratracs locally (Western NC) and pricing Cargar D windows online, and the best I've found is within a few bucks of $900. If you could clue me in as to where I could get prices like that I may have to pull the trigger on some new wheels and tires!!

wheels came from summitracing.com they are summit racing brand wheels. the duratracs came from a local tire store (flynns) that we do a lot of business with.

mine are the soft 8 knock off wheels... but they also have D window knock off wheels..

Hey did you have to pound the pinch weld or do any trimming? And if not are you rubbing anywhere? I have an 02 frankie sport and I need to make a tire/wheel decision.

well my pinch weld is pounded down... but i did that to clear the 265/75/16's. So i dont know if 31x10.5's would clear without the pinch weld pounded or not. Also you 'might' have to trim your front bumper a little incase they rub there...

i'd say with a 31x10.5 and frankenlift you shouldnt have a rubbing problem. worst case is pound the pinch weld.. worst worst case is trim a little of the front bumper. neither is a big deal.

for 265/75/16's you WILL FOR SURE have to pound the pinch weld and trim a lot of the front bumper.

Thanks 2006 KJ! Summit was exactly where I was finding the best price for wheels!! I don't have a Flynn's local; the best price I've found (local to me) for the Duratrac's is at Discount Tire (opened very recent locally) Discount Tire has a NC/SC special of $50 off the purchase of 4 or more winter tires (which the Dratrac's are included in) plus a $30 prepaid visa with any purchase over $500....Both of those are ove at the end of the month, and that just ain't gonna happen; even though that would be an $80 dollar savings, and would bring the total to well under $900...I guess having the money at the right time is of paramount importance....
Again, thanks for the reply.
