Any larger than 245/70/16 would require lift + wheel well modifications.

Hi,
had my KJ for all of three weeks now, did my research and put on 245/70/16 Toyo open countrys, absolutely no rubbing what so ever, fills the arches (no lift) looks ten times better, rides much smoother and the speedo is nearly accurate! have no pics but will take some if your desperate

how is the ride on 245's as opposed to something narrower such as 225?

cant really answer that as i've not driven on 225's. Mine came on 235/70/16's and the difference to 245's was so noticable. it now rides much smoother, currently suspension is the standard 10yr old stuff it came with so its probably sagged and generally deteriated over that time, so i'm guessing the extra height of sidewall that the 245's have helps, but being a 70 profile cornering doesn't seem to be affected, if anything it feels a lot more planted on the road, could be due to the brand of tire compared to what was there i suppose, but definately an upgrade i'd recommend to anyone. I think i read a post on here when i was deciding what size to go that asked why 245's weren't a standard factory size as its such an improvement.

I'm running 215/85r16 on stock rims and well everything else is currently stock, too. Picked them up last week. They are Radial SXT Mud Terrain (M+S) tires which could be studded but I choose to use them year round so ther are no studs in them.

I did a lot of research on the tires and various sizes. I belioeve this is the tallest tire you can go without a lift. My speedo used to run be off. It would say I was doing 70 when my GPS said I was doing 62. Now I am only about 1-2 mph higher than the GPS.
