Guy's, I have looked for posts on what I'm after but cant find any ..

My KJ has 17inchers on which I really like (6 spoke), and I wont be doing any REAL off-roading in it otherwise I be going down a differant path with the lift etc. just a bit of green laneing and mostly rural winter driving etc, and I really like the look of teh Cooper STT's, which I can get just up the road from me at a good price fitted and balanced :D

My question is - size at the mo is 235/65/r17, and I'm lookin at 245/70/r17 Coopers, can anyone tell me what the ACTUAL diameter of the Coopers in inche's please ?? (the 235's measure in at around 29" or so)

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
235/65-17 6.0in 14.5in 29.0in 91.2in 695 0.0%
240/70-17 6.6in 15.1in 30.2in 95.0in 667 4.1%

If you are looking for a new set of tyres I would also recomend General Grabbers AT ( not AT2), I fitted them now over 5K mls and love them. They are quiet on the road & hold very well in the wet and snowy conditions. Off road they performed very well to. I followed a LR90 on AT2 with no problem at all and you will find the size you want easily here in the UK ( might be also slightly cheaper then Coopers AT)

Hi Fil

Cheers mate, the size I'm lookin at is 245/70 ... will that make much differance compared to 240 in your example ?

I did want the Cooper ST, but my tyre guy said they arnt available any more :( , tho I must admit I do like the agressive tread patern of the STT's even if a good All Terrain would prob get me anywhere I need to go :lol:

Here is the difference with 245/70R17 and you stock size:

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
235/65-17 6.0in 14.5in 29.0in 91.2in 695 0.0%
245/70-17 6.8in 15.3in 30.5in 95.8in 661 5.1%

As you can see not much of a difference from 240/70R17 as stated below:

240/70-17 6.6in 15.1in 30.2in 95.0in 667 4.1%

Cooper ST are very hard to come by in any size now a days, but STT are Mudd's all depends what you want. If I have to choose I would go AT/3 or ST Maxx. At the time I bought mine (October last year) the ST maxx hadn't arrived in the UK yet so I went to the General Grabbers AT and may I add it do love them.

Great stuff cheers Fil :wink: , I think 245/70's will go just nice without completely filling the arch only having a 40mm lift :)

On a completely differant note here Fil, but have you ever tried any of those direct replacment LED brake light bulbs you can get from Halfords over here ? ... they're not cheap, but would potentially last a lot longer, and be a lot brighter I would think ??

No I have not tried the replacement LED light, I will have a look at them.

For what concers the tyres, you should be okay, but to avoid fauling the Wheel arches specially at the back it might be a good Idea to fit extra bump stops. Acutally best to fit them when you are changing the spring out at the back will make life easier. Easy and cheap way is to get hold of some Hockey Pucks, put a bolt through them and bolt them to the plate of the rear axel, like this ( I put two each side as I lifted more):
