Hi,

After this weekend Wheeling at the Jeep Jamboree in the UK, I have sort of realized that I need taller tyres and would like to move up to 235/75 R 16 from the current 245/75 R 16 i currently have.

So, I currently run OME 790/NS131 + 3/8 Boiler plates (took off clevis ring but can put them back in 2 each side) this puts me at 22 inc ( ie 3 inc lift) at the front, for the back I have OME 948/NS132L + 1 top isolator ( I can add a second one, I used to have them in, took then out as I was trying to sort out a propshaft vibration) and I am also sitting at 22 in (3 inc).

I currently run stock Alloy rims that I sort of like. In the UK I can't get any MOABS ( asked TonyCRD to sell me his & found a guy with a Wrangler Rubicon ex USA be he also would not part with them and Tommud has ran out of good ones). So I have to go and find a set of Rims that will work, I understand MOABS are 16x8 with back spacing 5.5 compared to 16x7 back spacing 4.5, but I am looking to get a set of rims that will push the wheels out but not too much (better than adding spacers 1.25inc that might be too much). What size of Rims should I go for so to be able to fit the 235/85R16? 16x7 or 16x8 and what backspace?

I have as standard 4.10 gears, so that is not a problems for me and I understand I will beed to pound the pinch well and add 1 more hockey puck to the two I already have and possibly fit Terraflex front bumpstops. Also might need to reposition the front Washer bottle depending on the rub I get.

So what else do I need to do?

Thank you for your time,
Fil.

I'm running tall skinnies on mine. Stock rims with spacers and trimmed the front bumper. I too sit at 22the inches and still have some rubbing at full lock.

Stay with a 7 inch wide rim, 8 inch would be too wide for those tires

Tom,

what about back spacing, I am looking, as I have gone taller, to go a bit wider without using spacers? should I go 16x7 4 in or if I can find them 16x7 3.5 in ? I am trying to minimise rubbing against the swaybar at full lock.

Tks,

Fil.

Megalos,

What size tyres are you running? reason for me to change up is that I am fed up of bottoming out in the tracks where guys running 33 or 35 in tyres go and not being able to get out of the ruts they caused. I will still run 245/75 R 16 AT for normal running around but for Green laning days & Play days I do need them.

I should have said "tall skinnies" = 235/85 16.

Magalos,

Sorry to be a pain, any chance of those photos?
I am looking to see, if you have the photos, how you set but front & back to avoid rubbing against the wheel arches.

Hi

Thank you for posting these photos, really helpful.

Please could a bother you for some more:

1) how tall your back bump stops are on the rear axel and howmuch does your tyre goes into the wheelarch

2) front if you have fitted bumpstops how tall are they

3) any picture you have al you KJ flexing to the full extent would be helpful.

I am trying to see with the spacers where the tyres end up rubbing.

Basically I am trying to see how much room there is to pay and what I need to trim up and what rubbing I need to live with.
I can see the spacer have pushed the wheels out enough and I think for what I want to achieve I might have to get a set, since I can't get Moab rims over here or the rims with a correct back spacing in 16x7.
I really appreciate your time helping out.

Fil.
