I have a set of mint TJ Moab wheels. The stock wheels on my 06 are in tough shape and look terrible. I don't have a lift. Wondering if anyone has tried the Moab wheels with 245/70/R16 without a lift and if they will work without rubbing/clearance problems since they are 8" with different back space than stock? I would probably go with BF G All Terrains or Bridgestone Revos. Thanks.

it depends on the load grade

- Jeepster ran 245/70/16's on Moab's - but they were P rated tires - the sidewalls flex more

if you get E's (and I'm not even sure they make them in 245/70's) the sidewalls don't flex as much -so the tire width/rim have to be closer.

Tirerack -will list allowed rim width's for any tire (or the manufacturer's website)

Yes mounting them on a 8 inch wide is stretching the beads out there a ways
I wouldn't do it
but like said some have against better judgement

I'd only run 265's and larger on an eight inch wide rim.
That way you can air down without blowing a bead.
And load range E's flex plenty when aired down.

You should see the tires the Locals run here

Image

This is just an example... the tire installers here do it all the time, 50% of lifted trucks I see are driven by locals with tires on wheels like these

I got to thinking about this more this morning. The 225 section width tire that came on some of our liberties had a difference from it's 7 inch rim of around 1.85 inches. (Wider) So a 245 would have a difference of 1.6 inches wider on an 8 inch wide rim? 1/4 inch difference from stock? It's still wider than the rim width. Put them on. But yes, the Moabs will be

I have them with a 1.5" lift. Slight issue of rubbing on the fender liner at the pinch weld.

Thx for help.
My plan is to instal OME 1,5 lift and JBA upper arms. Use KJ as daily driver and AT tires is my choice.
Have stock 16 rims and Moab TJ rims. Can you give me advice for max. tire size with no rubbing.
235/70 stockR16 .......looks too small?
245/70 stock R16 .......?
245/70MoabR16 .......not ideal width for this rims?
255/60 (70) MoabR16 ........rubbing? , rare size?

Yes Rubicons came with 245-75 MTRs on MOABs
They wanted to be able to advertise a 30 inch tire and 8 inch wheel
only reason it came that way
If you look preferred size wheel for a 245-75 is 7 inches

First the OME 927/948 combo will net you about 2.25 inches not 1.5 as advertised
Second 245-75-16 or 265-70-16 are both about the same size and work well
