Ok old topic but with a twist, with bumpers modified (mudderized) and pinch welds pounded flat and no lift will 245/75r16's work on factory rims? How about on soft 8's with 4" backspacing. Has anyone done this? What were the results?

Center of wheel to flair = rf 18" lf 18 1/2 rr 19" lr 19", where would the rubbing points be tom? Top of wheel well or am I missing something. Trying for a 30" tire any other suggestions that would work in this situation? I guess 245/70 will be as close as i can get. Thanks for the response.

Ok thanks for the patience with this old guy, I was assuming my 235/70r16's were 29" and that the 245/75r16's were 30.5 so only 3/4" difference in radius and thus clearance. WRONG my 235/70r16 coopers are only almost 28" diameter thats a 2 1/2 inch diff amd an 1" 1/4 on clearance. On the first assumption looking at the Jeep it looks like more than enough room lol no wonder my tire are an inch smaller than a 235/70r16 is supposed to be.

I had found a nice set of 245/75s on craigslist for $100 and really wanted to make them fit.

New , KJs are 2003 were at 19 inches and 245-75s would rub a good bit,
so sitting an inch lower no way
245-70s will even rub some more than normal
Where will they rub? behind the wheel well , front etc
It may sound like a great deal but what you'll need to do short of a lift won't be good or easy

Plus 6/32s on those tires is not much, won't have much more running left in them.

I wanted to post this to clarify a few things. As you may have noticed in my signature I am using 245/75r 16 tires without a lift.(for now)

1. Everything Mr. Mudd stated above is absolutely true.
2. There is rubbing inside the fender well high up in both the front and rear inner portion of the wheel well.
3. I have trimmed a large portion of the front bumper and inner wheel liner. And also pounded the pinch welds flat.
4. I have also spent hours with a heat gun heating and stretching and getting as much space as I could out of the wheel well liner.
5. No way would i recommend this for other than careful street driving. Take a bump on a corner to fast and something is gonna give way.
6. The tires i have measure 30.33" new on 16x7 wheels. These are on 16x8 wheels which reduces the height a little and they have approx 10,000 miles of wear on them when installed also. Which is probably why I am getting away with this.
7. Lift will be installed asap.

Thanks Tom! I know this was an old post but today I moved the 245/75's over to the factory 7" rims and almost all rubbing is eliminated except for a very slight amount on the driver side sway bar at full lock backing down hill.

Yes BUT, check tire manufacturer site for the outside diameter they vary between manufacturer's, tread type makes a difference also as well as spring sag particular to your vehicle. My tires came on a soft 8 type wheel 8" wide with 4" back spacing and rubbed a good bit at rear of wheel well (wore a hole through the drivers side). With the factory wheels I still have light rubbing in this area as well as sway bar. I'm lifting to eliminate this.

Be aware of all the warnings on doing this, they didnt write them for the fun of it. I got a great deal on the tire wheel combo from a member here, and was in dire need of tires, and knew that I would be lifting this summer, so I took the chance.

Ill take a pic for ya.

The outside diameter on that tire is 30.7" new mine were 30.33 new so you are starting out almost a 1/2" bigger, tread depth of 5/8", so you say 40% of that so lets say 3/8" smaller, that would put you at the size of mine new so..... Keeping in mind that mine had 10,000 miles on them, I would say they will be a very very tight fit. to no fit. Its a crap shoot. Your call.

If your only going to run them till end of summer, why not search out a used set of 245/70's?

I guess we will see! Going to pick them up this afternoon. Im paying 150 dollars for 4, so i can easily get my money back if they dont fit. I have been looking for anything 245/70 for almost 3 months. Everyone is looking for them but nobody has them for sale. Around here mud tires are gold, and everyone sweeps them up. These ones i am buying today i was lucky enough the poster put them up today and i was first in line for them. IF they dont fit there will be plenty of people wanting them around this area. I could care less if they make noise while rubbing away the plastic, i just want to make sure i almost have full lock to lock in the front. Thanks though for those pictures and wish me luck!! im hoping they will fit.

also john i measured all around and im at 19 inches from center of wheel up to flair. Maybe im a tad better off then you? I know my front struts already were "raised a little" by doing the pry bar trick. So maybe this is why. I also in the rear have the isolaters that helps the springs from sagging as much when towing.

Gonna trim some, then let the lugs eat the rest. I really dont care to much since the jeep will be SAS hopefully in the next year once the truck is sold.

Pound the pinch weld down, it can cut the tire.
