I have an 06 CRD with the SelecTrak NV242 transfer case. It needs new front tires - badly. But I am extremely cash limited right now and can only really afford 2 new tires - and no, the fronts won't make it until next paycheck. AND the existing tires are 225's, so I have no desire to put 2 new 225's on. I know that 4wd with different sized tires is a bad idea, but if I keep it in 2wd would that be ok for a while? My impression is that the front driveshaft is disengaged while in 2wd, so the different sizes shouldn't matter. But I'm also not particularly 4wd savvy.

Are they 225 75 16s? Those are a very common size and easily found on Craigslist.

the drive shaft is always in gauged to the front diff, if the front tires are turning the shaft is.. the disconnect is in the t-case . I do believe you can do this , just don't put it 4wd or you'll be finding a new t-case. my opinion.

IF you think you have to do this you could remove the front drive shaft BUT that would be the only way
