hi guys
I was hoping to get your input on this-

I recently bought my second CRD from Sailwa66 from the for sale section of LOST. Its a great Jeep and well maintained and i absolutely love it except for the tires. Immediately after buying it i drove it 600 miles to its new home in Minnesota. needless to say i got stuck in a snowstorm outside of Chicago and Found no love for the current 31x10.5 r15 Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tires. If i got near 55 MPH the jeep would start getting squirrely and the rear end kept trying to send me towards the ditch. and the tires feel like goo on even dry pavement. although is is a comfortable ride, they just seem to be all over the place. and to say these tires are noisy is an understatement.

I was thinking of getting some skinnier tires for improved handling on the Icy Minnesota back roads. I'm currently completing getting either 235/75R16 or some 215/85R16's
I do like the height of the current 31 inch tires but they are like handle like water skis on ice.

The 235's are much cheaper but, i'd like to stay as closer to the 31 inch tire height.
I know a few members have tried the 215's like geordi and others. and I found that Yokohama Geolandar has a load range D 215/85R16 i was considering. One question I have is How do the 215 handle with all that side wall? how is the cornering and ride quality ETC.

what are you thoughts on this? is there other size i'm unaware of to consider?
Thanks
Doug

I drive like an old lady, so can't really give good handling advice. I like my 215's though. I have ran into a few situations where a wider tire would have been better. For instance driving around field roads after a rain storm during deer season, they sink in more than my 235's did. Grip is good in snow. And the camel trophy skinnny tire look is cool. Although literally everyone says I need bigger tires. I had some guy with 255 70 16s tell me I needed bigger tires, even though the 215 85's are taller. My gas mileage didn't change, so that was nice! My ideal end situation though is to regear and run 235 85's. Maybe someday when money falls from the sky....

Check out 225/75/16. That's the size I run.

Looks fine to me with my 2 inch OME lift.

The ride quality and handling is also highly dependent on the Load Rating. A properly inflated "P" rated tire will ride much nicer and handle better in many circumstances. Unless you plan to do serious off-roading, I would stick with a "P" rated tire.

I had the 235 75 16 on with no lift all worn out, and p rated. The 215 85 16 went on with the Ironman HD springs, and monroe load levelers, and are E rated. The 235 were more 'cushy' which is probably a combination of all the above.
