While looking for tires for my Jeep I ran across the following website:

www.simpletire.com

Just verifies my feeling that all the tire shops have been putting the screws to me for years.

9/10 of the tires there I've never even heard of before.
Chinese, Korean, etc junk
Maybe Ok if you just run around town and never take any road trips

Simple tire.com is good but Tread Depot.com has better prices for better tires.

let us know how the across the pond tires turn out. I figure that it's not impossible for them to make a good product, but they sure do have a bad track record.

I have ran as well as some friends some of these off brand tires. Generally, the traction, and balance has been okay, it's the lifespan I find shortened. Referring mostly to nexen, trail guide l, and mastercraft.

I've sold tires in the past ( managed stores for Goodyear/ Firestone and Independents)
We sold cheap tires to get the customers in the door.
That said I'd question where they drove, miles per year etc.
If Grandma only drives 2 miles to church 1 mile to the grocery store etc then she maybe able to run the cheaper off brands.
Now if it was a family running here and there, taking vacations miles from home then a better tire, and one that was readily available would be my very strong suggestion
Quick way to lose a customer is to have them buy a cheap off brand and have a problem with one miles from home.
With normal brands ( Goodyear/ Firestone/ BFG etc ) if the tire shop doesn't have one right then normally they can in a few hours at most.
Off brand maybe days or end up running an oddball tire on one wheel.
Thats why I always run name brand / good tires I can count on and buy most anywhere
( also one of the many reasons I won't run retreads )
Trail rig staying close to home maybe , but miles from home , never want to go through that
