Post subject:  black steel 15" wheels?

I've heard that there is a brand of 15" black steel wheels that will fit an 05 sport. Does anyone know what brand, if they are 15x7 or 15x8, and what backspacing?

If I get 4 15x7 black steel rims w/ 30x9.50 BFG AT KO it will be cheaper than 4 245 70 r 16's without the rims!

from previous posts, I have not seen anyone try a 15" rim on an '05 yet...I'd be curious, too, as that would be an economical way to get a set of trail tires & keep the stockers for the street.

Found this on Troy's KJ links. Click on Tires/Wheels and scroll down.

Can anyone confirm this?

Post subject:  15s on a KJ

The problem in the past is the front caliper. A lot of 15s do not clear the caliper. If you go to a shop... have them try the wheel on the front and rear before they mount a tire. if you mount a tire you will not be able to return them at most places.

I really dont think the 05 is any different. Matter of fact one of our members out here has 15s on his jeep. They are not the black wheels.

you might go to a tire shop that sells wheels as well and talk to them about it. Just be sure the 15s clear the front camlipers. I do not think it will be a problem in the rear because the disk are smaller but you should check just to be sure. Hope that helps. Later...Clint

As for those black steel wheels, the brand is, Rock Crawler Wheels.

I'm curious, why do many Jeeper's downsize to 15" rims? I've noticed a lot of modded (lifted) Rubi's do this too? Is there a benefit to running 15's on the trails / rocks?

Post subject:  Couple of reasons

there are a couple of good reasons to go to a 15. The first is the side wall... The side wall on a 15 is taller than the side wall on a 16. A 245 75 15 will have more sidwall than a 245 75 16. So it will flex more around rocks and things off road and also give a little more cushion.

The other good reason is that tire makers have still today make more 15s than the 16 and 17 inch tires. so the price is cheaper for the same size tire in a 15 over a 16. Hope that helps. later...clint

BFG AT KO

30x9.50 r15 = $432 for 4
245 70 r16 = $560 for 4

15" rims are usually a lot cheaper too.

Actually, they would both have the exact same sidewall height. I think you meant a 245/75-15 vs a 245/70-16;)
