| Post subject: | What size tires? |
I need to get tires becuase of inspection. Should be getting a lift soon (probably rustys). My question is that I am wondering how tall of a tire can I put on a 2003 stock. I will be getting the dueler revos. I dont care so much how wide the tire is. I read that I can put on a 246/75 with only a little rubbing at full cock. Can I go any taller than this? |

245/75 is the best overall size to use. Some use 255/70. Others have gone slightly bigger, such as 265, but it requires some trimming. |

Yeah, 245/75/16 or 265/70/16. The 265 are a little wider. You should be able to fit them on without the lift, but expect some big rubbing when turning and also big bumps. Short-term until you get your lift should be ok, otherwise consider 245/70/16. |

So if I use those tires on my 2005, and I take my wife with me for a drive in the mountains, can I expect a little rubbing at full cock? |

a 245/75 on a stock KJ without a lift is going to be a HUGE problem...It is going to run everywhere under the fender. You would need a lift to runa a 245/75 for dang sure. later...Clint |

Hmmm...so the filter turns cr@p into "poo poo", but allows you to talk about roosters all day long. |

I'll second Clint's statement. I put 245/65R17s (same size as 245/70R16s) on my KJ before I lifted it and they rubbed pretty bad during turns and while flexing. Even after the lift I still get rubbing at full lock. Unlifted with a larger tire will not be good. Oh, and I'd also like to remind everyone that this is a family forum, please keep it clean. |

Hmmm... the stock 2005 I have came with 225/75 Which is a 29.2" tire. The 245/75 is (albeit wider) only 1.2" taller. Does it really make that much difference? Did Jeep already give me the tallest tire I can squeeze from the very beginning? |

Would someone please get this question of tire size right!!!! The sizes shown on this particular quetion are all over the place. I even see someone early on in this discussion saying a 265/70 would work on an unlifted. So what's the right "max" size on an unlifted "lowered" KJ??? Padrino |

So what's the right "max" size on an unlifted "lowered" KJ??? Padrino Look in the section labeled "Tires" for the sizing chart...top of the page, gives you all the info...o and I guarantee that 265/70s will definitely NOT FIT on a stock KJ...don't know why anyone would think that could work...I have 265/75s with a 2.5" lift and still have some decent rubbin...I had to chop a lot of fender... |

Those guys are right, the front is where you will have the problem, even on a pre-low. Just remember, your only getting about a half inch lift until you get in 31" tire range. A 31" tire would only give you 1" at the diff over the stock 235/70's...Probably the least cost effective 1" in the industry. Oh, forgive my realism I agree with those other cats too, if your gonna spend the bucks to lift, go as high and best quality as possible with the largest tires. I guess the answer is as bigga tire as you can stuff if you plan on doing the lift soon. |

Many on the "CDR" forum swear they have stuffed 255/70/16's under an unlifted KJ without any rubbing. This doesn't line up with what I'm reading on this discussion. "KJ in a tight spot" states 265's won't work and that's most likey correct. However, by the "chart" neither should the 255/70/16's which the CDR guys are swearing work. So what's the max size tire you can stuff in an unlifted KJ?????? The mystery might only be solved by someone that's actually gone beyond the 245/70/16 size to actually find out...for good or bad. So anyone out there that's actually done it and isn't only talking "charts" and theory???!!!!! Padrino |

Just in case ya'll thought I was making it up about the CRD guys running 255/70/16's w/o a lift midway down the following page is where it's "claimed": http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... 5&start=15 So my big question remains, is it true that you can run 255/70/16's on an unlifted KJ???????? (I'm anxious on this question as I'm about to go buy some Revo's this week to replace the Badyears that came with my KJ) Padrino |

The answer is real simple, get your tape measure out and you'll see that the max diameter you can "STUFF" is about 33". Why stop at 255? I know that a 245/70 on a prelow can rub off road when "flexed" Those guys claiming little rubbing, may not be flexing enough. You let us know if it rubs |
