i'm loking into BFG Mud Terrains on my '03 KJ sport. I don't have a lift in any of my future plans, so i need to stay reletively stock. i'm thinking 235/70r16, but i worry about the tread hitting the pinch weld guard inside the front wheel wells. I'm also thinking about getting some cragar street lock steel wheels, but i'm unsure about what offset and backspacing to get. could someone please help me out?

Well if this helps my '02 KJ came stock(limited model) with 235/70R 16's and had no rub what-so-ever(it shouldn't it came that way),but it is a prelowered KJ but that should not matter because I believe you can still get 235/70R 16's factory. So the tires will fit,I also believe the factory offset is 4.50",don't quote me on it though, for a 7" rim.

Yup, I agree with the other posts, a 235/70R16 will fit fine, that's the other stock tire size on the liberty (225/75R16 and 235/70R16). You should be able to fit that on the factory rims and have no problems at all.

What is the biggest/ possibly best size to run in this tire on a stock 03? I have decided i want BFG M/T's and am ready to throw down the $$$, but i'm just having a little trouble in deciding on the best size for my application. I am having trouble in deciding between 225/75 vs a 255/70. I have seen that a 245/ 70 is perhaps the optimal size on an unlifted kj, but i am having trouble finding any mud terrain tires in that size.... can some one please point me in the right direction?

I'm in the same situation as you with the same year Liberty. I'm ordering a set of GENERAL Grabber AT2's this week but can't decide if I should go 235 or 245. I don't know from experience, but I've heard that with a stock suspension, 245s will rub on the side of the wheel well when navigating bumpy terrain but are fine on the street. Considering I don't get offroad much, I'll probably choose the 245/70R16 purely for appearance.

As for mud tires, another guy on this forum posted pictures of his stock Liberty on Firestone Destination M/Ts in 225/75R16, and it looked great. He ended up exchanging them, however, for Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos because they ride smoother and are quieter on pavement than M/T. It all comes down to having the right tire for the job. As much as I love the macho look of offroad tires like BFG Mud-Terrains, for daily driving I need a street-friendly tire with great wet traction for rainy and snowy roads. My local tire stores really push the Revos and BFG A/T KO, but the GENERALS for $115 installed is a deal too good to beat. I'm putting the $200 I'm saving on tires toward skid plates and tow hooks.

Good luck in your search for tires.

T.J.

well i did it! i just ordered 4 new BFG Mud terrains, in a 225-75-R16 from walmart.com. I don't think it was too bad for 550 for four plus free install

Thats not a bad deal at all. Good in fact, but you should really get a BFG for the spare also.

Believe me it really sets it apart.

I plan on getting the spare next.... as good of a deal as that was, i have to wait another week or two to get the spare...but it will be done.

My next thing to look at is a westin sportsman grille guard, or splurge and get an ARB bumper, but i have not seen one on a stock setup, can it be done?
