Thank God, it's to small and rough riding for my liking these days. Now a Dodge Magnum with a MB V6 CDI would be great. :wink:

Where did that discussion go on those 1980s vintage diesel Jeep Cherokees? That would be a good one to move into here...

I love the VM diesel in my Jeep, but I just had to post this...

The British made Perkins 192 diesel I4 was optional in the CJ-5 and CJ-6 from 1961 until 1965. It uses a cast iron block and cylinder head with mechanical lifters and 3 main bearings.

Perkins 192 I4: The Perkins 192 I4 diesel engine was used in '61-'65 CJ-5s and CJ-6s. "Very few CJs were actually produced with this optional engine."

Bore x Stroke=3.50" x 5.00"
Displacement=192.2 ci(3.15L)
Compression Ratio=16.5:1
Horsepower (gross)=62@3000rpm
Torque (gross)=143@1350
Main Bearings=3
Valve Configuration=OHV

Just wanted to share info on the first Jeep Diesel Fueled Vehicle that I know of.

Local has a rig just like in the picture including the trailer, about 3 or 4 years ago he repainted it red it had been a really faded green. Sounds like a gasser but I usally have the windows up, so who knows. Only thing it has been used for in the last 30 years is deer hunting as for as I know, that and if we have a really bad snow it is used as needed.

I am a regular at scanning the web for rare CJ Jeeps for sale. Since I started looking in 1995, I have only ever seen 2 factory optioned diesel CJ Jeeps for sale, a CJ-5, and the ultra rare CJ-6 - both with that perkins diesel. I have the pictures at home and I will try to post them here if I can find them on my old computer - I think two are very good close ups of the engine bay. The CJ-6 was very rusted and rotted, and they wanted $7000 firm for it.
