Can't wait... Granted I'll have to till the Liberty is paid down some more. My wife loves the new Grand and I love the torque and mpg's!

Article one small inaccuracy: Diesels ARE available in CT, but not in MA...as far as I know.

I mean, I HOPE so! I'm in CT!!!!

They unveiled pricing and 40k is a little steep for me. The Hemi is cheaper...

Unfortunately, for now, the CRD is only offered in the Limited and Overland. The CRD option adds about $3k to the price of a Grand Cherokee.

My initial thoughts are:
1. Will DCX offer this CRD for only 2 years (like they did with the Liberty CRD)? Probably not but I can't help thinking about that.
2. With the current price of ULSD compared to regular unleaded and the $3k added cost of a CRD, it's initially going to be an uphill battle. You can run a Hemi Grand Cherokee and be further ahead, money wise, in 5 years.

Initially, I couldn't wait for the GC CRD; now, I'll wait for at least a year or two.

Ya but the Hemi isnt a diesel.

(In my mind its that simple, how I love to see things so clear-cut 8) )

You would recover the extra cost of the Diesel over the Hemi in about 60,000-70,000 miles...not that bad if you plan on keeping it. Power to Weight ratios for the Grand vs the Liberty are pretty close...if the article is correct about the WK being 1,000 pounds heavier than the KJ CRD?

The only thing I like about the WK (if the hype is true) is the tranny being "Diesel Tuned"...but can't trust the hype.

I think the WK CRD will help the resale values of the KJ CRD once people see how much a new Diesel will run them.

Holy crap, that thing looks like a lowered minivan. What does it have, all 2 inches of ground clearance? I don't think it could even make it over the speed bumps at the mall.

I'm guessing the red one showen is a SRT8.....

If you look, the price its the same as the Laredo 4x4. When you build one it adds the $3,000+ for the diesel option and puts the total to around $32k.

I really wished they offered it in a cheaper trim level. I don't really understand their strategy with the GC as opposed to the Liberty. As much as I'd love to have one, I'm afraid that I'd have to wait. I really don't think they'll do all that well even with gas running $3.35 and diesel for $2.89 currently in Indianapolis. (They both went up today)

I think as others have said in this thread people would be likely to buy the Hemi for the wow effect even though the deisel would be a superior package for a mid sized SUV IMHO.

Edit: After reading the review I found that it has a 10 quart oil capacity.

$2.89 YOU ARE EITHER GETTING RIPPED OFF OR JUST THROWING MONEY AWAY.
$2.57 is the lowest price of diesel in Indy

Yeah, I'm one of those crazy fools who will buy it on the way home and not drive 20 miles each way while burning 2 gallons and wasting an hour to save $4.00.

You'll have to point me to this cheap diesel - maybe it's on my way too and from work, among other places. Last summer I parked my Jeep and drove my van as I was the only driver. Unfortunately, I'm back as the sole driver, :( , so now I'll park the van and drive the Jeep to save a few dollars.

I go 4 miles from my home to the TA in Whitestown off I-65 and State Rd 334. $2.57 is the price

Check out my reply to Alljeep......
Your assuming a 20 mile drive, but fortunately for me it's about 4 miles from the house.
Check out the diesel section of indygasprices.com you'll find some less expensive diesel prices at major truck stops all around indianapolis for less than $2.89.
But, it's your perogative to purchase fuel at your choice of outlets.

Where is "here"? In the Tampa area diesel is around $2.75 and 87 oct. is about $3.00.
