The jeeps shown in the pictures are actually the J8, the military version of the JK - hence the outrageous suspensions and steel bumpers. They're available in 2-door and 4-door versions, all riding on the long-wheel base chassis. Being military vehicles, they're available in regulated and non-regulated EuroIV config (basically EGR/no EGR).

Scottie, you'll do yourself a favor if you wait until the 2008MY JK CRD. The 07MY features the same 545RFE as KJ with a 360 N-m rating. For 08MY, the 545RFE has been internally updated and upgraded (read: made bullitproof for both trans internals and for TC) and will feature a 460 N-m rating.

MrMopar, you are my hero. Dude, keep the inside info ROLLING!

Now, does that MY2008 include a US Diesel version? With the 2.8l or new 3.0l?

Currently there's no plan for US markets in either JK or KA/KK due to EPA NOx standards. There are efforts currently to meet emissions - as soon as it happens, the diesel projects (JK, KA/KK) will get the green light the next day.

No plans for the Mercedes 3.0L to be used in any of these platforms - all are using the new VM RA428 "Panther" engine.

Does a "panther" puke oil?

In what way do you mean puke oil? The CCV was redesigned on the new engines for reduced blowby through the vent. Hardly anything about the two engines is the same save for displacement.

So, I am sorry, which engine/tranny combo will be in th 2008 JK, KJ, KK? You seem to mention two.

Also, can you confirm or deny the new body-style photos of the KJ that we saw in other threads?

This is SOOoo cool to get the inside scoop. It is actually very helpful to have a little info for planning. I am considering offers on my Libby CRD, but want another Jeep, preferrably a wrangler unlimited half-door...but I want a diesel. Or a KJ (or Trailhawk) if they are more "convertable". Might hold out if they are just over the horizon.

07JK ATX: 545rfe, 360N-m rating
07JK MTX: NVG370 (6-spd), 3.21 or 4.10 axle

07KA/KK ATX: W5A580, 460N-m
07KA/KK MTX: NVG370 (6-spd), 3.21 axle

08JK ATX: 545rfe w/ new internals and torque converter, 460N-m
08JK MTX: same, 3.21 3.73 4.10 axle

07KA/KK ATX: same
08KA/KK MTX: same

The body styles seen in the other thread (jeepunlimited.com) are indeed production intent but currently only for the J8 which is the military version of the JK and won't be available to consumers. The only consumer versions will be JK in either SWB (2-door) or LWB (4-door). All body styles can have ATX or MTX. Unfortunately no word yet on north american release for any body styles. Earliest will be 08MY if emissions can be met, and currently KA will be the first in line for homologation.

CCV is only part of the oil problem. VGT/turbo design has a serious issue with passing oil which will eventually cause a multitude of mechanical failures. See it on this CRD and see it on the large Detroits at work. DCX is ignoring the problem until the basic warranty expires, no different than Detroit Diesel did with their commercial engines leaving the owner with an expensive mess to clean-up out of pocket.

With the new turbos on the RA428 Panther engines I know of zero issues with passing oil through the seals, both on dyno engines in Italy and in the durability fleet that's running. Not to say that it's not a possibility, but the issues present from KJ have by and far been resolved.

05 CRD - 295 ft-lbs with 545RFE transmission. 295 ft-lbs converts to 400 Nm. Why did Chrysler use a 360Nm rated tranny with 400Nm engine? Converting 360Nm to ft-lbs works out to around 270 ft-lbs. That wouldn't even handle the 5.7 Hemi.

Certain questions come to mind..... :-)
