What kinda mileage is your GC getting? Try Hotrodoil and ask him how much he can get oil for.

Valvoline has a 5w30 that is labled as "meeting VW 505.1 specs" for diesel use (as opposed to "Volkswagen 505.1 approved"). It is kind of cheap (like 5-6 bucks a quart. Most of the 5w30 diesel oils are European imports and quite pricey.

Might also try some of the online stores that carry goods for Volkswagen TDI's, like World of Impex (http://www.worldimpex.com/).

I'm gonna try this stuff.

http://www.avlube.com/mo1espfom5wc.html

It's the ony thing I've found for meeting the mysterious MB 229.51 specification.

I've ordered from this place in the past, been using this in the KJ, no problems.

Found this http://www.germanfilters.com/jeep-diesels-c-4050.html
I don't know about the oil but they have the oil and fuel filters for half the price of the dealer. :D

For those that want to go to the dealer and get the right oil the first time the part # is 68001334AA

I found another site thet carries the oil filter and a wrench for it. again I don't know about that Total/Elf Solaris 5w30 oil, so I think I will stick with Mobile 1. http://store.europarts-sd.com/index.asp ... rodID=2436

I found the correct Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 at Pep Boys this weekend for $6.99/ltr (didn't have cases). NAPA had the filter. Just bought an '08 GC CRD and wanted to make sure it has the correct lubricants.

As I understand it there is only ONE oil you can use with that engine. Youd better stay with that.

As long as an oil meets the MB oil spec for that engine it fine to use. Now, because of the strict stanard, you will probably only find a few oils here in the states that meet the MB spec. There are only 2 or 3 oils that meet VW 507.1 spec that are sold over here where as there are 10 or 12 that are sold over seas.........

I found that the Sheaffer oil in fact is NOT MB229.51 spec. The web site shows on one page that it is compliant and on the data sheet there is shows it's not. I called them and got confirmation that it is not onlynwrong on their web site but also printed wrongly on the bottles.

I have however purchased Total Oil which is MB229.51 compliant from Wakefield Sperling, excellent!

The MANN oil filters can be ordered from Amazon.com for around $10

There are plenty of compatible oils available for the GC CRD. Check out this Mercedes-Benz operating fluids website for the MB229.51 Spec.
http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/229.51_en.html
I have been using The Quaker State Product #5080616 ( Diesel Plus SAE 5W-30 Full Synthetic) and had a local distributor order it in for me. The jeep dealer informed me this is what they have branded as the Jeep GC CRD oem Oil at their Stealership. :BANANA:

AMSOIL European Car Formula 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil is recommended for European gasoline or diesel vehicles requiring any of the following performance specifications:

• VW 504.00/507.00
• ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4
Mercedes-Benz 229.51
• BMW LL-04
• Porsche C30
I use the AMSOIL 5W-40 Synthetic European Car Formula in my CRD. Excellent for hot and cold temperatures. It starts easily in cold temperatures.
It meets the the following worldwide specifications:

* API SM/CF
* ACEA C3
* ACEA A3/B3
* ACEA A3/B4
* BMW LL-04
* Mercedes Benz 229.31, 229.51
* Porsche
* Saab
* Volvo
* Volkswagen 502.00, 505.00, 505.01
* DaimlerChrysler MS-10725
At the risk of starting another one of those oil debates, I thought I would put this out there. This works for me but hey the choice is yours. :rockon:
