Hello,
B
Never posted before. If I make any mistakes please say.

Vehicle is a 2005 Liberty with a four cylinder diesel engine. Engine I believe was manufactured in Belgium.

Bought used and have run mostly B100. Some was commercially produced and ASTM certified and most of it was made by owner.

Engine starts for a few seconds and then shuts down like it might be a sensor. Do not have the small red light that would indicate the key losing it's program.

History: Both of the intake/turbo hoses and the turbo were replaced under warranty by dealer. A month or so later no start. The air temp sensor in the intake manifold was bad. The sensor end had literally been eaten away. Then showed a glow plug code. All four were bad and replaced. Still no run.

Any ideas?????

George

You check the fuel filter? Might be clogged.

Fuel filter has been changed. Will put a new one on just in case.

How old's the battery?

The start for a few seconds really sounds more like a key interlock - and I haven't heard of the red light - so if you have a backup - you might try that.

but the battery has to have enough voltage to turn on the computer - enough current to turn the starter - doesn't count - if the computer's not on - it won't run.

(oh yeah and the engine was made in Italy - VM Motori )

Thanks for the tip and the correction on the engine.

George, please post this in the Liberty CRD section. I know the name of this section is confusing, but it's for non-Liberty diesels. You'll get a lot more responses here http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=5

New fuelfilter? Can there be air in the fuelsystem. It sounds to me that it can be the problem.

George, if you're still checking this thread, have you looked at the heater plug in the filter head? It's the one on the right as you're looking at it. Several people have had the element oveheat, melt and let air be sucked into the fuel line.

See here http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=29961

When you pump the fuel primer does it take a while to firm up? Does the vehicle currently have the check engine light on? Does it run smooth for that few seconds that it does run?

Your wireless module is probably bad. Disconnect battery let system drain for about 20 minutes, reconnect and try to start.

I have seen this happen before, however when the wireless module went dead, the red light did come on the dash, which he is not experiencing. This was on a GC though.....
