Hey gang,

I've been hanging out over on the Liberty forum for the last couple of years while I've been enjoying my Liberty. I recently sold the vehicle to a fellow LOST member, and I pulled the trigger on a GC CRD.

So....educate me. Any problems with this vehicle that need TLC as on the Liberty. My Liberty was a labor of love, and I correct all the issues with it.

So now I'm starting with a blank slate. I've got a Racor 3500 CCV filter ordered, but the thought of the EGR sending the nasty soot into my intake is killing me.

Any way to disable it like on the Liberty?

I too am interested to see your experience. I am batting around the idea of replacing the wife's car witha CRD GC while it is still possible to steal them from Chrysler.

Have you tried unplugging the MAF? Will it start?

I've only had the CRD for a day, so I've not done anything to it.

I have a Racor CCV filter on order, and if I can determine how to disable the EGR, I will.

Yep. But so far, I've not received anything definitive on disabling the EGR.

I did see a post that said the Mercedes engine, running to proper oil and proper ULSD fuel doesn't clog the intake and EGRs. But I still don't want all that hot exhaust in my intake.

I got a WK for my wife. One of the first things she told me was that I wasn't going to 'mess' with it. The first thing was that I had to always fuel it up.

I made a trip from Nashville to Atlanta this week. Went down and back on a single tank. 515 miles round trip. EVIC said I got 23mpg, but I hand calculated it to 25.5mpg. Pretty dang good considering I was running between 70 and 80mph and the engine on has a bit over 1000 miles on it.

Just got the InMotion tune uploaded yesterday. WHOA MAMMA! The dang Mercedes motor runs like a scalded ape. It actually has a high RPM hit to boot. Very diesel like on the low end and **GASP** almost petrol like on the top end.

Not my particular Jeep, but it's exactly the same. Laredo models have black grilles and don't have all the fake chrome on the. Best looking ones of the line if you ask me.

I've had the 3.0 for 2 yrs, no problems whatsoever. I don't think this engine needs a tune, but if you need more power for towing, them perhaps, but it has plenty of power as is.

The 3.0L does not have egr. It is done internally, U'll have to change camshaft. I have an 08 and love it.

Does not have EGR??? really??? :ROTFL:

It sits under the engine cover in the rear driver quarter... I've pulled it off and cleaned it myself.

My 08 WK CRD 4X4 is at 81K miles.. no problems to date.. there are a few issues with the engine, but ALL are easily prevented with proper care. aka.. stopping the return of the exhaust into the intake.. lol. The EHM method works VERY well.. and I would suggest keeping the inline heater IN your mod. the majority of issues I see with EHM's done by everyday folks is fixed with a little heat ;)

Some use the catch can method (like you with the Racor).. but they are never 100% effective...

there is a tune from GDE to "disable" the ERG.. but it's $500+..

Ultimately, I LOVE my Jeep!

alright, i created an account just for this thread.

there is a lot of B.S. in this thread.

you want real advice? take the resonator out of the turbo line, cuts out a lot of the spooling up delay. there are multiple threads about this, if you have a 2007, search for crd kidneybead ( seriously) if you have a 2008.5 you cant miss it, open the only hard plastic on the turbo line and pop the center out

make sure you have the updated turbo intake seal ( its black as opposed to orange)

personally, i didnt go the racor way this time (had a libby crd), it really doesnt puke as much as the libby did.

lastly, and most importantly
Dont fark around, just get a GDE, or if you want to burn more money for nothing go custom spooling.

yeah yeah, its 500$ so what, you just blew how much on the machine, whats another 500 to get more power, better milage, and things like the EGR and the stupid swirl motor( that your going to have to replace evantually) disabled.
anyone running a bone stock ECU is a fool. you're extending the life span of the engine dramatically with a tune.

the GDE eco tune put me up to 24MPG consistant, and ive spiked to 27-29 on a highway trip.
Tunes also take care of anything EGR related( as mentioned above), they are basically disabled, the only open to prevent turbo overspin so you dont blow it up by driving a diesel like a dickead( overspin)

leave the exhaust alone. no reason to touch it, at all. period.

anything else you want to know?
this forum is a poor resource for the crd wk, the guys seem to gather on jeep garage and jeep forum.
just the way it is, this is place was the bees knees for the libby, but alas its not the case this time

cheers.
