Post subject: | VW non TDI Turbo Diesel engine for old JEEP..... |
Having sold (last night) my old 71 VW Type II that I converted to a Turbo Diesel years ago, to a WVO conversion lover. I have a crazy idea to drop in a 1.6L VW non TDI Turbo Diesel engine which I have sitting in a barn attic, into an old Jeep. An old 4cyl 4X4 Jeep would have the best gearing to run with this engine. Does anyone have any suggestions on which model (CJ?) Jeep would be the best candidate? I am in no hurry and I would build the engine first, then sell off an old tractor (1936 John Deere B) I don't need anymore to make the room in the barn and raise the cash. Most likely I would have to go out West to find one that has not removed a bunch of oxygen from the atmosphere and created a bunch of iron oxide (rust). Most of the older jeeps in the Midwest are rust buckets. Does any one have an idea how much an old Jeep (CJ?) would cost with out an engine or a bad 4 cyl engine? |

Some body wants the engine more than I do, and Wife is on another Klingon Hunny Do session. |

If you ever do get back to this project, one thing to check is the rpm range on the tachometer, comparing the Diesel 4cyl to the gasser 4cyl - you'll notice the Diesel has a much lower design range, which the low gasser 4cyl final gearing would quickly peak out - you'll need higher (lower ratio) gearing to achieve hiway speeds in your project |
