Been having too many kids and considering a Commander CRD conversion. Shouldn't this be pretty straight-forward considering the Grand Cherokee CRD and Commander share the same platform?

Someone must have thought of this before.....

Wow, you are really committed to having a Jeep diesel. I would shop around for an Excursion with a 7.3 Powerchoke.

Not to discourage you - I'd love to see it. I just wouldn't want to be the guinea pig.

Well, yes I am fit to be "committed" :-)

I think I want a diesel jeep more than Jeep wants a diesel Jeep. sigh.

I'd look for ford power-choke excursions but I can't find any more recent model years. When did they stop making them?

Nothing against Ford, by the way. Owned a lil Focus and that was a very good car. And it got rear ended by a old batty lady driving 40 mph into us at a stop-light and took the hit like a champ (not a bruise on me or my wife). So I could give Ford another chance.

Still....want a big Jeep

Excursions were only made from MY 2000 to MY 2005. 2000 to 2003 had the 7.3 Powerstroke, 03 to 05 had the 6.0 Powerstroke. Apparently they did the changeover to the 6.0 during 2003.

If I had my druthers, I'd go for a 2003 Eddie Bauer edition 4x4 with the 7.3.

Thanks for the timeline, whish there was something younger. What is the difference between the 7.3 and 6.0 powestroke? I heard rumors of all sorts of issues with power strokes...so I'm curious.

Agree with you on the Eddie Buar, nice package. My Brother-in-law has EB package on one (non diesel) and it is holding up well.

Hmmmm

The 6.0 is a hunk..... It's like playing the lottery to find a good one. The 7.3 is almost bullet proof.

If you want the 3.0 in the commander, I might know of some one that can help you import a 3.0 engine........

x2. Wasn't there a recall for head bolt studs cracking on some of the 6.0's? Plus there is beaucoup aftermarket stuff for the 7.3.

Digger, what are you talking about? You know how many dieselheads that are on here? Everyone will be tracking you down trying to get this "import information" from you. . .

Youre talking about the 3.0 liter CRD from a Grand platform. Good luck finding one.....

Commanders came with the same engine as in the GC in europe. Should be plenty of donors in eurorpe if you look around.
