Post subject:  "Fuel contaminated" WK (Grand Cherokees) in used car market
I've seen several WK diesels for sale that are former Chrysler Corporate vehicles but most have a "fuel contaminated" notation in their history report. Most of them only have 5K-10K miles.

Has anyone bought one or looked into why/how this happened? I can't believe they would be a buyback vehicle. One would think that a consumer who fills his tank with gasoline instead of diesel would be stuck with the repair.

I'm not sure about the long term effects but usually filling a diesel with a few gallons of gasoline doesn't hurt it. On these newer CRD's though, I'm not so sure.

Any insight?

Wow
The Liberty CRD's were designed on the assumption that someone would put gas in them -
no part issues - other than changing the filter - and if you've got enough diesel in the mix it will still run
couple of folks have done it (rough and bad mileage - but it runs)

I bought one about 5k miles ago (2 months ago) and am very happy with it. The factory blew about 6 grand replacing the entire fuel and emissions system from what I read on these vehicles.

I agree this is what I have also heard. But apparently 2007 and newer it is more of an issue. Of course it all depends on how much diesel remained in the tank before the gasoline was added, and how new and sophisticated the diesel engine is. In a 2007 or newer clean diesel engine, any amount of gasoline will probably damage the sensitive emissions control components (DPF, OxyCat and SCR) and system. In older engines with much less sophisticated and "touchy" emissions systems, a lightly diluted (say 90 percent diesel/10 percent gasoline) mix would probably pass through with little or no detriment.
