Can someone post a link for the supplier with the best deal on a pigtail receptacle and wiring harness for a 2010 KK? I have the tow hitch but no wiring. With all the different trailer plugs what is the best one to get or are there adapters for different trailers? Also, approximately what will it cost to have the dealership do it or is it easy enough to do myself? (I have basic vehicle wiring experience) Thanks!

Get the seven pin harness from the dealer for about 130 dollars and put it in yourself. :D

Okay, so is there plugs on the taillight harnesses to tap into or do I need to run wires all the way up to the battery?

All the way up to the battery with a wire for brake controller. Basically plug an play. Just make sure not to get it close to exhaust. I've read some have had the wires melt from heat. I installed mine and check it often.

Yea, it's real easy. Just takes time. There are electrical connections that go between the power and the lights, like a tee connecter. That supplies the outlet on the receiver.

Here's one place where you can buy the MOPAR wiring online, or at least grab the part number:
http://www.jeepworld.com/accessories/liberty/hitch.htm

And the directions for installing it (from the same website):
http://www.jeepworld.com/accessories/instructions/82210642Ad_wireharness_IFU.pdf

Good luck! :JEEPIN:

If you have the factory receiver, this is without doubt the best choice as the outlet locks into the bracket that's welded to the receiver. There's also a mesh bag full of relays and stuff that goes in the compartment where the jack is. I think that this is the stuff that protects the vehicle from electrical damage should something go wrong with your trailer.

I appreciate all the info everybody! I don't believe my hitch is Mopar because I took off the Uhaul sticker when I got the Jeep! lol ! But it does have a flange welded with two little bolt holes where the pigtail receptacle would go. I had it in South Hills Chrysler / Jeep today for it's first tire rotation and oil change, they quoted me $170 for the mopar wiring harness, that's about the going rate, once you pay the shipping.

Check prices on line then call local dealer/s and see if they will match. Remember shipping charges online but not at dealer. My local Jeep dealer would try to price match accessories, but not parts. Mine was 130 but in 2009.

So, it's a uhaul hitch. That means the bracket is a standard one that you'll have to buy a receptacle but get one with a pigtail on it for your KK. At the end of the harness the mopar receptacle can be unplugged and the other one plugged in. With the mopar hitch, the receptacle has a turn lock kinda thing goin on.
If you plan to wheel it, you may want to check your departure angle and compare it to the mopar hitch. You may find that your hitch slams on the ground when off-road. :JEEPIN:

Yeah, I appreciate the warning Ted. It's about 3 inches lower than the bottom of the bumper. However this Jeep is a pavement princess, so I don't have to worry about that. lol

So you have wired up the tow harness? I might be buggin' you for some details if you don't mind. What your sayin' is that I have to buy the mopar tow wiring but I'll have to improvise on how to mount the receptacle?

Yea, but the good news is the mopar harness has a plug at the back end of it. You'll need a new receptical with a pigtail and plug for a liberty. It'll screw to the bracket on your hitch and plug into the harness. Once you start looking for the parts you'll see what I'm talking about. Don't buy a generic receptical that requires you to cut the plug off of the harness. Hope this helps. :D

^Makes sense, thanks.

The previous owner put a bunch of expensive after market stuff on my KK. I wonder why the uhaul hitch with no wiring? Bike rack maybe. Are the uhaul hitches good quality? I'll post a pic when I get a minute.

Yes, just hang lower than MOPAR hitch. Many people add hitches for cargo carriers and bike racks, so no wires. In Mi you only need trailer light if you can't see vehicle tail lights or tow after dark.

I'm not sure about the law but I'm a truck driver and I could never pull a trailer without turn signal/ brake lights. It's a pet peeve of mine.

Different states have different motor vehicle laws. You might be suprised what's legal in Ohio and West Virginia (a 15 minute drive for me) but is illegal here in PA.

Here's the pigtail receptacle mount. Will I be able to jury rig up someway to mount the Mopar plug to one or more of the three holes?

Here's a look at how low the Uhaul hitch sits. They didn't even need to cut out that perforated part on the very bottom of the bumper like the Mopar hitch requires!
