Always laugh when I see people pull up on snow like that
Buddy did that at work, had to finish up after quitting time and came out with everyone gone.
Well it seems there was a warm up somewhat during the day, must of been a hole under the snow when it was piled up
There his sat, front wheels dangling, frame of the CJ sitting on the snow, rear sitting on ice ( where snow melted and ran down ) no one around, even locked front and rear couldn't move :ROTFL:
I drove over 40 miles to pull his dumb a** 5 foot , he never lived it down

I was only like that for an hour or 2 and it was solid ice. My tires barely left an imprint. I can see if your doing it all day(especially with sun beating on it). But if it's an hour or 2, or night time below freezing temps you're generally safe.

I did some measuring and planning...(Bmx would like this) for the cantilever rear suspension. It'll be close to $2000 to do a full conversion in just parts alone (going really top of the line). Have to cut the spring perch and reinforce/make new axle shock mount for the push rod. Push arm would be tubing with Johnny joints, but heim joints would work too. The pivot would be on the unibody shock mount with a simple 90* degree triangle to allow the axle to pivot the rod/pivot triangle in the right direction. Here's the biggest hurdle (outside of the giant price tag)...relocating both the EVAP canister and exhaust/resonator. These two fill a void where some 8"-12" travel ORI STX struts would go to do the hard labor (like I said reeeeaaalllyyyy top of the line haha). The EVAP canister can be moved just off to the side of the hole for fuel lines is in the spare tire wheel well. Do a resonator delete and just have the exhaust piping bent to allow it to leave just behind the passenger tire a good ways. The exhaust bracket also needs to be moved and putting it on the other side of the unibody rail should give it enough support the lightweight metal. Of course...all brackets will have to be custom built...The pivot triangle would be two pieces of 1/4" sheet with 1/4" sidewall tubing as the spacer/bracer. The unibody strut mount will be a 1/4" fork bolted to inside of the rear bumper. Sounds like a lot, but once the brackets are made it's an easy bolt-on haha.

Exhaust is easy. Cut the resonator off and do a turndown before the rear axle, or like you said route it out the side.

Evap would have to be moved to someplace similar to jeepmonkey's, assuming that it doesn't interfere with anything.

The cost seems to mostly be due to the coilovers themselves. You might be able to save some money going Bilstein or Fox instead of King or ORI(like you said, top of the line).

Obviously you'll have to ditch the spare(who uses that anyways? :jester: ), or atleast relocate it(inside, roof, rear tire carrier).

I think the hardest part would be getting the math right on everything and then picking the right spring rates and valving.

Edit: I think doing something like the Offroad Evolution JKU setup would be easy. You might be able to bolt it to the "chassis" like where the hitch bolts to. Then you can add a skid to it for extra protection.

Which, with ORI, or really any air shock, is a simple matter of tuning it haha.

This is the offroaf evolution setup on a JKU. Seems very easy to do. Can't see why we can't, I'm pretty sure we have more overhang than a JKU

Figuring out how to size the pivot triangle seems to be hardest. You could probably even do normal poly bushings if you want to try and keep noise down.

Should be easy with a starting template and just moving the push rod to actuate everything and simulate everything. My guess is that when sitting flat the unibody mount hole to strut mount hole should be parallel. This will allow the strut to be at close to compressed and it will extend when the axle goes either up or down.

Anyone have solid info on JKU lifts?
My buddy is trying to ditch his spacer lift for a spring lift.
Obviously I recommended OME, but it seems there are quite a few different options on how to lift a JKU. He's very old school and not computer literate. He wants a "kit" and not something he has to put together.
Seems like his price range is slightly over $1,000, wants 2-3 inches, and less than a grand to install at a reputable shop. He lives in Staten Island, but I get to see him everyday at work.
I believe he said he has 33's on his right now, which looks great, but he knows it doesn't ride that well.
He loves my KK cuz he had one before he traded it in for a Patriot for his wife.

Height depends on what size tires he wants to run. I've seen that you can run 35s with flat fenders at stock height. 3.5" or so and flat fenders can run 37s.

Brands come down to what you want. Tell him to talk to a few guys and ride in their JKs. Never know otherwise lol

I really want to say he has 33's.
He said he has 3.73 gears like we do in the Liberty which scares me. That thing must be a dog.
He wants to stay with stock fenders.
He's got the money all set and ready.
He's made a few mistakes with modding, and finally wants to do this right. We seem to have a much more simple design.

Depends on the year. 12+ has the 3.6 with almost 300hp and 3.21s are the stock gears(3.73 and 4.10s are options) on all models except the rubicon. Either way the way the JKs are, 33s aren't bad. You gotta remember the Saharas come with 32s. Rubicons are better with 4.10s but that's besides the point.

They're definitely simpler. The problem is there are so many options to choose from. Then it comes down to what this kit includes that that kir doesn't. Or this one bolts on, that one welds on. Or even this gives new brackets, that just adds plates to fix angles etc

I've wheeled with a friend with a '14 JK that got a 2.5" Teraflex kit. It's a solid kit and not horribly expensive either. The ride quality is really just based on the price too though. You can get high end Fox or King lift kits for LOTS more than the Teraflex, but you get what you pay for.

Yeah I checked out the Teraflex kit for him. I think this is his best bet. He would just have to choose shocks. The kit is like 500 without shocks. His Wrangler is a 2008 Sport.
I'm guessing anything will ride better than what he has now. I've never been in it, but I'm guessing it rides like crap.

I like Rock Krawler. They don't make a good kit for Libertys, but I've heard nothing but good things about their kits. I'm also a little biased since they're from NY lol.

I've heard good things about Clayton too. A buddy runs their long arm kit on his TJ.

If he wants he can try out the Metalcloak lifts...from what I read and research on them they're suspensions are ridiculously well thought out. It's not just a spring/shock install, their arms are pinpoint accurate and they even came out with "6pak" shocks...very innovative company.
