My dad and I replaced the rear main seal in my sister's new-to-her 01 TJ with a 4.0. Not bad aside from a few snapped bolts on the header/exhaust. Thankfully we got to use a friend's shop so we had access to a lift and stash of nuts and bolts. Still took 3 hours...

Still sorting everything out on it. Thankfully we have just under a year before she turns 17 and gets her license. The front pulls, might be as simple as a tire not holding air, or could have to do with alignment. I notice that the steering wheel doesn't return to center unless you do it... We need to get a transmission skid, and fix 1 little rust spot. Other than that, it's pretty clean and in good shape, especially for 160k miles. If she decides she really likes it and we end up keeping it, I'm gonna try to convince my dad to ditch the 35 in the rear. Discs will help it stop better...and besides why not upgrade?

Pictures of the Jeep? I don't think you've showed us yet.
Discs would be a good upgrade. My last car had drums in the rear, so I can relate to what that's like. A few scary moments for sure. :dizzy:

slammed on the breaks last night. a heard of deer decided to cross the road 50 foot in front of me. glad I didn't have drum brakes!

side note, when applying the brakes in any gear harshly, does any one get a low sounding grumble?

I know its not an issue, but just had wondered what causes that noise. I think it is coming from the rear. maybe rear shocks? I know for a fact their well beyond shot. they don't leak, but are usually maxed out every day. darn PA potholes!

I don't use my brakes often. I've had to slam on my brakes probably 10 times since owning the Jeep. My guess is just the brakes doing their thing.
If you ask me, our brakes are awesome. I think you'd hear noise in the front, not rear. Think about it, the Jeep will "dive" under hard braking applying more force on the front end.

Lol no, I just coast. Taking your foot off the gas slows down the Jeep almost as if you're applying the brakes. Over 70K on the original front brakes. The previous owner replaced the rear brakes before I bought it around 32K.

the original owner didn't treat my KK as well as I do. the breaks need to be replaced next year. the calipers are gauged, and that's probably from me wheeling and rocks and dirt grinding on there. so ill have those replaced as well, all vented. luckily no brake dust. ill be upgrading the brake lines sometime within the next 2 years to stainless steel braided lines unless they snap before hand.

Are you getting the extended brake lines? May be a good idea if you plan on a tall lift in the future.

yep, not sure of the length yet on what I need, but ill worry about that when the time arrives. I plan on lifting to 4 inches. or maybe 3.5 since that's a lot easier. all springs and shocks will be HD though. ill do the trac bar some time and rear discos as well. not sure if I want to do front discos if they'll only give me a half inch more droop. really wouldn't be worth it at a half inch unless I got the discos for $50 total. (quality)

When I did my brakes at 75k I wasn't even close the wear indicator haha. But with these new tires I don't even have to brake anymore...the rolling resistance is RIDICULOUS!!!

You guys twisted my arm, so here's some pics of the TJ. 01 Sport, 4.0, 3speed auto, we got both the hard top and soft top. There was some rust on the front fenders, that's fixed. We'll do it better if she decides to keep it, maybe I'll talk her into high lines... The gas tank skid is bad and needs replacing. The previous owner fixed the frame due to rust by the control arms(it's a known problem on TJs). Other than that she's really clean.

She bought seat covers, a steering wheel cover, and surprise straps as grab handles(had to be clean here...). They're made for JKs, but work in TJs.

Image
Quick question, anyone see anything wrong here? Mostly regarding the town pass.

My KK photobombing the last 2 8) When the weather warms up we will put the soft top on, for now she'll deal with the hard top.

And to answer the question about the pass....that's what happens when your mom and sister decide to do something. What happens to that pass when the top comes off? "Oh we didn't think of that..."

Thats what I do, coasting and varying speed for how the lights are set so no need to stop.
214,000 miles and still on the second set of pads all around. First set replaced at about 100,000, ( They weren't worn out then, just had it torn down and replaced them all)

Yeah I have a feeling the rolling resistance on my DuraTracs will increase the lifespan of the brakes, too.

Has anyone seen Jeep's Easter Safari concepts yet? I love the Chief, minus the interior.

The Staff Car looks to be a great throwback and it's nice to see the diesel in the Africa.

You're of the generation that actually knows how to drive and coast. The average person thinks we're driving slow.
Whoever gets to drive behind me gets the pleasure of saving their brake pads and increasing mpg if they follow my rhythm. :BINGO:

We come from the generation that doesn't know how to drive. They like to play with the gas then slam on the brakes. Then they realize that they stopped too far away from the light and roll up

completely agree! I absolutely hate it when people don't turn on red when it doesn't say "no turn on red" any where, or utilize the center lane for merging onto the road. and I absolutely hate it when people brake going down hills. "free gas" people. utilize it! :furious:

im not aggressive, but people, your behind the wheel, know the rules of the road before you turn that puppy over!

:ALONE: :ALONE: :ALONE: :ALONE: :ALONE: :ALONE: :ALONE: :ALONE: :ALONE: :ALONE: :ALONE: :ALONE: :ALONE:

im done with my rant.

Yall should try being a truck driver!! I see so much crap its crazy! Its amazing to me the they wait till the last second to look over on the on ramp and then oh S**t theres a semi there and slam on the brakes. All they had to do was take the phone out of there head and loook!
