they also feared turning the car off as you would then lose steering etc
you dont loose steering with engine off you loose power steering. I personally have been in a situation where i lost the engine while driving and i was able to pull over without problems

You will in a lexus, they have electronic steering,no PS pump just a electric motor attached to the R&P.That stupid parking assist is to thank for that.

Wow.

It's amazing that something like that passed safety regulations to be on our roads. That seems incredibly dangerous. :dead:

Next time I buy a new car I will be on the lookout to avoid electronic steering.

I guess the K.I.S.S principle (Keep It Simple Stupid) is long gone these days in cars. Too bad. Simplicity is a good thing.

Yeah but the Yuppie startbucks coffee drinker wants all those techno gizmo's since they never actually learned how to drive and need them to cause accidents, then complain about the cost to fix them.

i dont know much about these newer steering but since its electric it should be able to run on the battery alone at least for a few miles :?: I know some cars have electric power steering pump but i never heard of a fully electric system.

I know at least here in canada full hydro steering is illegal because you completly loose steering if the engine goes off. I dont think lexus could sell cars here if their electric system does the same

When I bought my 08 VW GTI, the dealer said it had an electic steering rack. I made me pause for a second, and ask him what would happen if it blew the fuse for the steering? (while I was driving)

He didn't know what to say.
