Mine used to tick, it was quite annoying when next to a wall/fence/house, but I haven't noticed it in a few months. I read on a different forum that the tick is caused by the fuel injectors, not sure if thats accurate though

Have a 2012 Liberty Arctic with 275 miles on the odometer as of this morning. I noticed the ticking sound last week in a Mickey D's drive through. I think it may just be a characteristic of the 3.7. :JEEPIN:

Mine has ticked since day 1. It has 62k on it now and still ticks. So, if something was wrong with my KK, it's taking it's slow sweet time to cause a catastrophic failure of the engine. However, having the lifetime eng/drivetrain warranty does make it no concern at this point anyway. At Micky D's or other drive through is where it's heard the loudest. Almost sounds like a lifter is tapping but that's old school. :2cents:

I had brought my 2009 back to the dealer while it was under the bumper to bumper and the mechanic said the 3.7L is known for it. I asked why and he didn't have an answer. That was around 20k. I still have it at 55k. He had suggested changing the plugs, we did and it didn't help even though I spent top dollar...my mpg did improve though. I use synthetic oil, looks fine and level is fine too. It's definitely in the engine though. I'm curious if and when anyone ever figures it out. It's kinda grown on me now and I'm used to it. Sometimes I look at my daughters 99 Cherokee with the 4.0 and 200k plus miles and wonder how well the engine would fit in my Liberty.

what about your engine oil? do you use 5W-20 or something different?

Also -- try an OEM oil filter just for grins.

Mine ticks on startup when cold then stops after a couple of minutes...running Castrol Titanium synthetic 5W-20 with OEM filter.

The 3.7L ticks from 0 miles to 320,000 miles.

That's just the way it works.

My '04 Ticked.
My sister's '05 Ticks.
My '10 Ticks.

My aunt's '08 Dakota Ticks.

The 3.7L is a Ticker. :)

Anyone know of 3.7 that does NOT tick ?

Would be interesting to know the source of these ticks. 3.7s have had lifter, valve seat and valve spring issues..... There are TSBs for them as well.
