The flipper glass just clears the tire plus the piece the tire mounts to is adjustable. It's not an issue swinging the spare out of the way. As far as the license plate goes, Tom's right, I usually forget to mount it lol but a couple zip ties hooks it pretty well. I also have a license plate mount but it was made for Crager soft eights, they have a larger hole than the OEM rims. I plan to put Rock Krawlers on when I get new tires, I think the holes are the same size as the soft eights. By the way, the tire isn't heavy while it's mounted on the carrier.
The one on the Cherokee, if it was made by Detours, is probably a tailbone. He does a very good job with those. Usually their welded to the rear crossmember. Some drop out of the way and some swing out of the way.

Do you have the oem hitch? Im talking to detours now and he said it might be a problem.

I ended up building one off my hitch similar to the backbone. Swings down, glass opens, and i made a bracket and added lights for my tag.

hey guys just figured id try to help, i was looking into this a couple months ago an come across a guy who owned a commander who moved his spare and added an extra tank. from what i remember he worked with a company who built him a tank an had it rigged where when he filled up it filled the second tank first, which the overflow from that went into the first tank. i believe he also had a switch that could fill the first tank with the gas form the second tank or something like that. it really was a cool idea and came out great. im pretty sure that it was on jeepforum. il try to look it up, if i can find it.

I realize this is an old post but does anyone know how to build the tire carrier off of the hitch?
