ATH, next time you've got the bumper off, thing you can snap a few pictures of how they mount up?

It's not the ATH tow points, but here's a thread that has the tow hooks being installed. Visually swap the recovery points for the tow hooks in your mind and you're done. The steps and the mounting points are identical:

Send a PM to AtTheHelm. That's the best way to make contact to ask him questions and place an order.

Also ATH you should come up with a shackle mount for the rear that would b soo sick and I would def buy one :JEEPIN:

Thats not a bad price. I went to a local TSC (TRACTOR SUPPLY CENTER) store and picked up a 2nd shackle. Think I paid 15 for it. It matched the otherone I had. I also got a kit http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A6AR6T2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 that helps with any rattle. I'll post some pic's of my Jeep once the dealership fixes their F'up (Atthehelm is aware of some of the "pains" I had getting my bumper installed.. and cost!) They broke a tab on the one good fender flair (p.side) so the flair was sticking out. They screwed up the other flare by not cutting it right but it's getting replaced anyway because of the orig reason the car was in the shop anyway. They only (now get ready for this) installed 4 of the 6 bolts to hold the bumper on). They didn't cut enough cowling which allowed it to flop when driving down the road and it made some odd noises. I fixed this myself with a pair of cable snips (scissors) while on my way to Ky a few weeks ago. Oh, did I mention they "tried" to ream out the hole for the 3 bolt hole on each plate and screwed up the threads? So, after talking to the accessory departments manager, they are going to replace the flairs at no cost (except the one that was scared up from a accident) I just have to pay for the flair. Think it was like 150 or 200 bucks. They are going to "tap' the nuts so they can install the bolts and they will fix the flairs so they don't stick out once they install them. Gee, I can't wait..

Atthehelm.. worst case.. how much would it cost me for a new set of plates if they can't retap the 3rd set of bolts? I think they will pick up the tab but just in case.. I may need them asap.. Calling today to setup a drop off time.

And if anyone wonders about MPG after the 107lbs of additional steel on the jeep, my before MPG was 19. After the bumper install, 20. WTH the thought.. Only drove 500miles so I need at least 4 tanks to get a realistic reading. On the way back, pulling a trailer that came in at 1300lbs, add a lawntractor that I think comes in at 300-400, 6 cases of bootlegged pop LOL, a few boxes of odds and ends, I think I was pulling 2000 lbs. I got 16mpg running the A/C, driving 65-70 in half hilly country, then the flat lands of Ohio and lower Mich.. FWIW..

Were the threads buggered up because they got powder coated? If they can't clean up the threads with a 7/16-14 tap let me know and I'll send you another set. Make sure they use the same grade 8 bolts I sent you too. Any questions just email me.

Threads were fine. I ran your bolts through before I handed them over. I did buy 2 more bolts. Same as your's except these have a flanged head so it's like having a washer built on to the bolt head. I'm putting it back in their hands Monday. Dropping it off sunday night and should be able to pick it up Monday (late hours). So far, my only cost is going to be the driver side fender flare that I needed replaced anyway. I just need to find the instructions you sent me explaining (and showing) them how to CUT the flairs CORRECTLY!... Thanks

ATH,
Stupid question time...
Can these be used WITH a full brush guard? I don't see any mount points on a brush guard and l'm sure l'll need something at one time or another.

Likely not.. Usually those brush guards use the tow hook holes, which are what the shackle mounts use.

If you get ATH's normal bumper mounts instead of just his shackle mounts, you can fit a brush guard and shackle mounts. i wasn't able to fit a D-ring on the tabs after I installed the guard though. With some drilling/cutting through the guard's mounting bracket you could probably make it work. I'll try to find a pic from when I had the mounts and guard installed.

EDIT: Found the photo:

So those would mount to the crossmember like the bumper, then you'd have to cut the factory bumper cover for them to come through, correct?

Yes, they bolt to the same locations as the factory tow hooks, except it give you much beefier backing plates.
You just remove the square knockouts where the factory tow hooks would pass through in the small lower grill.

A forum member with an ATH front bumper was hit hard enough to rip the driver's front tire off. As far as I know the bumper is fine and still the same one that's installed after he fixed everything.

ATH.. just curious, has anyone sent you pictures or reported the end result after being in some type of collision with these bumpers? I'm sure with it being steel, hitting a car in the rear or any other place for that matter will really screw up the other car but what ends up happening to the Jeep? What about air bag deployment? Since it no doubt takes more "crumple" to hit the sensors, just wondering all this now that I've had my bumper on for a while. If I had my time to go over, I would have had it powder coated in flat black instead of gloss.

This thread is for the shackle tabs, but there have been a couple accidents with my bumpers reported. The first one the Jeep was parked on the street and hit off center. The bumper wing was deformed and there was a bunch of body damage to other areas of the Jeep. There was a yard sale of other car parts but the other vehicle apparently didn't think claiming responsibility was necessary. The second accident, as bmxer said, ripped the wheel off and severely damaged the driver side suspension along with the driver door. I suspect the opposing vehicle missed the bumper though as it didn't have a scratch.
The bumpers I build are designed for off road and recovery use. They are built to give you a greater approach and departure angle and take hits from rocks/boulders/animals etc and not sustain damage like the stock plastic would. As far as the airbags go, they have not been tested for compatibility or changes in sensitivity on the sensors.
