So I did a little audio upgrade over the past couple of weeks.

1) tore out that POS stock head unit and replaced it with an Alpine CDE-W235BT Double-din receiver.
$200 + $60 wiring kits. Comes with bluetooth which is fantastic. Highly recommended unit.

2) replaced all the crappy $26 OEM speakers with Alpine SPS-610 2-way speakers. $200 total - Crisp sound with no distortion
Image

3) replaced the stock tweeters with Alpine SPS-110TW 1 tweeters. Best I've ever had.
Image

4) added a Sound Ordinance low profile subwoofer under the driver's side seat. $200

The sub isn't something that will vibrate your neighbors while sitting at a street light or setting off any alarms in parked cars. This little guy fills the sound PERFECTLY with tight base and decent frequency response. The best part is that it takes 0 cargo space. I was going to set up an Alpine type-R sub w/ amp in the back and realized that I would be sacrificing space that I utilize a lot. Also it's significantly more expensive.

With the full Alpine system (minus woofer), I can thoroughly enjoy longer rides with full sound. With a little "break-in" time, it will even sound better. Installations were very easy.

Hey effinpissah,

Did your new double din just go right in or did you have to modify anything?

Thanks,

The only modification was removing a metal bracket thing in the back of the empty din which "pinched" the stock unit. Everything fit perfect after that. Crutchfield provides a din kit and wiring harness. You will have to buy a steering wheel and bluetooth module/relay which isn't expensive. You can get them at a discount when buying a head unit.

Installed the remaining two skid plates: radiator and gas tank. The gas tank one was a mental and physical challenge! I'm pretty worn out tonight. :dizzy: Many thanks to wecwbe for posting a great how-to: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=104&t=50745 Without this, I would have been up a creek!

For info on ordering and installing KK skids, see this thread: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=88&t=69504

Just ordered a second set of KC HiLites Daylighters (moving all 4 total to my RRO Adventure Rack).

Waiting on the rack to come in, should be Monday.

Ordered some dip-it paint for my wheels and all my trim.

Next week = very busy Jeep mod week  :JEEPIN:

I have nothing against them but that wasn't the reason I used these colors.

Im a big fan of red and black and two tone schemes always look nice.

It looks awesome with the black headlights but now you should do what I did and do the blinkers too.

daveymurray, I tried doing that first. I'm using Plasti Dip to do all of the painting and just wouldnt hold on well enough for me what i ended up having to do was spray it with 3-4 coats and exacto-knife around the letters to get a clean cut

In the end I liked the trim all being a different color it just didn't pop out much before and i always liked how the silver, blue, red, and other colors all had that nice "pop" from the trim on the side.

With your jeep being burgundy/Red it should turn out awesome to just have the letters color matched!

Will the plasti dip always be able to be pulled off? Or will it stick on more the longer it is on? Also does plasti dip come in green?
