RRiveraKK,

I wasn't trying to rain on anyone's parade. Please don't take it that way. I've been contacting companies since 2008 about aftermarket KK products and I would rather buy something from a company pre-made than have to spend the time I don't have to make it myself. I have hated that we KK owners haven't had any real options for offroad major components like bumpers and decent rock sliders. That said, let me think about some things as I may start a new thread this weekend to address our mutual needs.............

Regarding approach angle, just take a look at the below photos I've already posted before from various off-road trips and you can see why you want maximum (approach angle) clearance, both horiztonally and vertically, especially in line with the wheel path:

Just sharing my thoughts from my :JEEPIN: experience.

Nice pics. 8)

I agree that the angles are critical. My front bmper is petty tore up and I wheel is softer, more forgiving terrain then rocks. I like the bumpers, they look good. I don't think there is really anything wrong with the designs, I just think they should be tightened up a bit. As I said before they were even designed I don't plan on buying steel bumpers for the KK, anytime soon at least.

part of approach is also the height of the bumper from the ground which this improves.... i'm truly still interested... what the measurements that it will jut out over stock?...

i agree with all them. id prefer to get the front over the back, but then again i want a tire carrier on the back bumper so either way, id settle for both. what the stupid part is, is that we are limited to our flexibility when it comes to our truck. meaning our literal flexing abilities and our manufactured parts. i think it should be equal for all jeeps, when it comes to parts, doesn't matter what jeep it is. thats just my :2cents: :goink:

MtnLuvr, Thanks for the input, it is certainly a valid point. I want to make sure we all like it and find it useful. I spoke w Jason today and asked him about how far in comparison w the OEM bumper will it stick out he said he is not certain but it would be a few inches more, I then asked him could we do it closer in and he said it's because of the Winch, so I asked him how about putting the winch on the top and he said we could probably do it but then the winch seats in front of the radiator. So I guess we will continue to work on the design. He is very busy w a Toyota 4Runner group buy so the soonest he will be able to start ours will be around the 1st of the year. Well, let me know what you guys think.

Tell him to make the rear stick out less and sit higher then stock, with a tire carrier and I MIGHT actually buy one, especially if my bike sells. I like the lines of the bumper but wish it were a little smaller. I don't really care about the front cause I already have a winch and if I change from stock I've already got ideas for mine.

Update:
My KK is back from Perkins Performance, Jason has taken measurements for the front and rear. We will produce the back 1st and then move to the front. He did measurements for both. The front created in AUTOCAD and the rear using some existing pieces and cardboard to get the idea. We talked about the tire carrier and for those who choose the carrier it will be behind the driver side but it will probably cover a good part of the rear, if you look at the images of this Grand Cherokee it will provide you with an idea ( http://www.perkinsperformance.com/projects.html ).
As for price tag:
The rear will come standard with 1" shackle mounts, swing out tire carrier, 2" receiver (rated for 4000lbs), black powdercoat and grade 8 hardware. Because this is for a niche market, and the complexity of the bumper, it will retail for $1095 with the spare tire carrier. Whether the stock spare will fit underneath is still to be determined; towing will not feasible if the spare is underneath do to decreased clearance for hitch to go into the receiver far enough without contacting the tire, but a recovery shackle in the receiver would be possible.
Options will include reverse light mounts (3.5"x5") for $60 and color powdercoat for $30. [see http://www.cardinalpaint.com]
*** If we do get 5 orders from a group buy we will offer them at 10% off for $985.***

For the Front:
The front will retail for $985 and include 1" shackle mounts, winch mount (up to 9500#), black powdercoat, and grade 8 hardware. The front will require the fender flares to be trimmed directly underneath the turn signals, and a plastic piece under the grille to be trimmed with a jigsaw or rotozip/dremel tool. Both of these bumpers are 3D CAD designed and engineered using de-scaled 3/16" steel and 1/4" steel mounts, and of course they come with our lifetime guarantee. Options include a grille guard for $65, or full wrap around brush-guard for $115.
***Price for the skidplate will be $45, or free with 10 orders.

Shipping:
Shipping per bumper to a commercial address: $185, or $315 for a set of front and rear.
Lead time will be 4-6 weeks from date of purchase.
Front bumper weight: 115lbs +/- 15lbs
Rear bumper weight: 135 +/- 10lbs

Ok, since there seems to be some interest in KK off-road parts, here's a link to a thread of the off-road bumpers and heavy duty rock sliders I've been developing for my KK and for our KK community.

I commend you RRiveraKK for, like me, taking matters into your own hands to try to get some off-road aftermarket parts going for our KKs. Sorry I didn't feel comfortable divulging my projects earlier in the summer.

RRiveraKK do you have any updates? a little friendly competition from perkins performance and Mtnluvr's bumpers could bring some sweet bumpers and prices to the KK community. i hope you havent been up on this project. the more aftermarket suppliers for the KK the better!

I spoke with Perkins Performance and they're not interested in building a front bumper for the KK at this time or seemingly in the future. :grim: :(
I guess another one bites the dust.
