Clutch and DMF replacement.
The old clutch disintegrated. No typical symptoms like slipping. One minute driving fine, down shift, accelerate, go to up shift, let out the clutch, and rumble, rumble, nothing.
This is what I found.

Maybe you were near the end of the clutch life and it just let loose.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up.
I've had them wear down and start slipping. That's a good indication you need to get a new friction plate, and quick. Not much $ to do that...
When they blow up like this you have to replace everything. $400.00 ding to the wallet.
Been driving manual rigs for as long as I have been driving. Never had one wear out in 60k before, much less have the friction pad blow up into pieces.
Here is a Pic a couple of the larger chunks. One sitting on the friction plate in the center, another piece by my knee.

Image

As you can see there is plenty of friction material on the other side. The wear lines are still visible.
Image

Here is what a new one looks like.

I've only driven 1 manual. It was a mustang v6, super easy. My grandpa taught me and the hardest thing is taking off. I want a stick, I feel like our Jeeps would be really nice with one. Wheeling with a stick, idk. Never done it, probably won't ever.

Wheeling with a stick can make your left leg tired if you are creeping.
I have had a few automatics in my time, but prefer the control and interaction of a manual.

I love my manual!! Drop her into 4 low and I'm creepy crawlin over the trail, no problems.

What exactly is it when the clutch starts slipping? I am at 92k and have a feeling the clutch is coming up for replace...

I'm used to around 100-125K before needing a replacement...
When you accelerate and let the clutch out, the engine RPM go up, but your speed does not increase. Or during hard acceleration, (no clutch interaction)there will be a RPM up and then it takes a little for the rig to catch up with it.
You may also hear noise when you let the clutch part way out. It could be a shutter, or if the friction pads are really worn, the rivets will make a scraping sound.

Took it snowboarding this week. Finally took some picture of some ATH products. Light mounts on my A pillar and bumper with a custom step. I also spent some time last week wiring up all my lights.

I made a 50" curved light bar mount that requires no drilling

They are also from AtTheHelm. I asked him what he could do for me, and we came up with the simplest design possible. They are held onto the A-pillar with two self-tapping sheet metal screws. Pretty durable and they don't rattle at all.

Glad you like it!

To upload pics, create an account with a site like photobucket then download pics to the site. You then copy and paste the img code to the forum. So when you post a pic, you're basically pasting an URL .

Made an upgrade to a very original early production run ATH rear bumper!
It has far too much history to just get rid of it so we added a hitch receiver tire hilift and Jerry can holder.

Do you typically ride around with gas in the can, or only when you need to? The extras look great added to that early production bumper!

Currently the can is empty. If I do end up on extended trips I will have it filled but for every day driving I don't see the point.

My jeep is in a "fuel saver" configuration or as close as I can get to it due to traveling for some training at work.
Going about 120-150 miles a day for a month I'm trying to save a few mpgs where I can.

I'm running a set of 245/75 highway tires which have provided a pretty decent mpg increase at normal highway speed.
Cruising at 70 I have achieved 21mpg with my lift and heavy armor.
At 80-90 I get 15-17

And with my MTR's I was getting 13-16mpg at 70 and 10mpg at 80-90

I figured you of all people Gage, would be interested in those #'s (:
