I used to change my own oil until I got the Jasper remanufactured engine with the 3 year 100K warranty. Now I have a shop do it so I can produce the receipts if I ever have to claim engine work under the warranty. So it is possible they could have over torqued it if they used air tools on it. I'm hoping that's all it is and it's just a bad drain plug gasket.

I can take some pictures of the CB and Scangauge for you tomorrow. Is the 75 the one with almost everything inside the handset? If so, that's what I have too. It works well, and I can remove and hide the handset when I park in the city.

Yep, small handset. I would have liked a larger, more conventional CB, but space is a premium in Libertys.

Pics as requested:

Scangauge on the steering column, velcroed in place so it can be removed if parking in the city. The cable goes behind the dash through the area where the steering wheel tilts, and connects underneath to the OBDII port.

Image

I mounted the bracket for the CB radio to the right of the steering wheel on the dashboard.

Image

Here it is with the CB handset in place.

Image

The "brain box" for the CB radio lives inside the center console next to the shifter, under the 4x4 switch. The port for attaching the handset cable is on the side of the center console just behind the elastic strap and in front of the drivers seat.

Image

Here is the mounting location for the Firestik antenna, above the passenger side tail lamp. I have a spring and a quick disconnect for the antenna attached to the mount. The antenna cable goes through the vent behind the tail light housing, along the floor under the doors behind the gray plastic interior trim, up underneath the glove box area, and into the center console area to the "brain box" of the CB.

Image

Hope this helps! Let me know if you need any help as you run the cable. All of the interior trim pieces are held on by those metal clips, plus a few screws here and there.

I changed my oil drain plug two oil changes ago. I think it was like $12 or so. They don't sell just a gasket, it's all one piece.

Thank you! Every picture is almost exactly where I was thinking about mounting everything. Also glad to now know what that black piece was for with the CB :dizzy:

Thanks, Gage. I will probably try that. I checked this afternoon and it's still leaking. :banghead: It looks like it doesn't drip unless the oil is warm and thinned out, like when I'm driving or right after I park it. This morning before I started it was dry, but there are drips hanging off of it now.

I won't be able to get this sorted for at least a week, since I'll be on a trip starting tomorrow (not with the Jeep). My family will be driving it in the meantime. I don't think it's losing enough oil to bring the level down much, but I don't like that it's leaking. Environmentally it's not good to put oil into the groundwater, plus I like a clean vehicle that is well taken care of and in a good state of maintenance.

You're welcome. I forgot to mention I got a really small SWR meter so it can live inside the center console area too, under the shifter. If I take my roof rack off or put it back on it changes the elecrtomagnetic shape of the Jeep, so I have to re-tune my antenna, and it's just easier to leave the SWR meter attached.

I need to get one of those. Any cheap recommendations?

This is what I have. It's not flashy but it's cheap and it works.

And it's ordered. Should be here by Saturday! Thank you. Hopefully I'll be up and running soon. Were the wires on the CB long enough to make it to the battery?

I think so, but it was a while ago! You can run the wires through the firewall through the rubber plug near the brake booster, and it's a direct shot from there to the battery.

I've really gotta stop looking at this site. I'm running out of time on the weekends to get these projects complete.

The Before...
Image

Start of Project 1
Image

Incase any body was wondering the Coolant/Washer fluid tank makes a great laptop stand. Also, this part not as easy as some people made it sound.
Image

Projects 1 & 2 done
Image

Probably why my partner doesn't buy me power tools for my Birthday or Christmas
Image
Image

Project 3 done, Turn signals painted same color as headlight bezels. Storm Grey Metallic
Image

Upcoming Projects...
- Front KJ tow hooks installed (Ordered from dealership)
- Headlight/fog light upgrade. Currently using H13SU2 thinking about changing to Silverstar ZXE or maybe Putco LED-HID kit
- Depending on room 24" led bar between hooks to provide protection for PS-Cooler
- 2" Daystar lift, need new shock and struts anyway (OEM still installed, rounding off 125K Kms)
- Decided on 235 or 245/75R16
- Install class III hitch
- Replace K&N drop-in filter with CAI system (nothing too stupid)

Looks good. Save yourself the headache and avoid daystar. It's a spacer lift. If you're replacing your springs and shocks might as well just get lift springs and have a better ride and longer lasting lift. I recommend OME 927/731s. You'll get 2.5" and can always add extras for more. It'll also be the same or similar price compared to buying new springs, shocks, and the daystar lift.

So Sunday I woke up "early" and wired and mounted my scangauge.

Image

Also got recruited to pull 3 bushes out of the ground. The Jeep pulled them out with ease!

I then proceeded to drive to New Jersey to pick up my fiancé from her lax game so she can make it home in time for her friend's engagement party. Well we were late to that because we hit a ton of traffic. I can tell you that with a tail wind I was getting 20-21mpg at 90 mph. My mileage seems to stay constant around 70+. I saw a slight dip at about 75-80, which was about 18.5 mpg, but that had a headwind. I'll have to start tracking this when I take longer drives.

Oh and today I washed her. She was long over do for one. Sorry no pics of that.

I installed this brush guard a couple days ago that I got for a steal. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it but I think I like it. It's just a placeholder for now but I like having more metal up-front again. I've had bullbars on my suv's/trucks before so it is something I have missed.

Install was a breeze. I did get a socket that must have been slightly too small stuck on a bolt... getting the socket back off was the longest part of the process! :banghead: and I had to cut some of that black plastic (in front of the radiator) on the lower bumper so I could install the brackets. So I guess the Jeep is officially mine now.

It's funny though - just the brush guard and my painted rims makes my KK the most unique one I see driving around. There are maybe 4 or 5 other KK's I see regularly and a couple of them are white. Nobody seems to do anything to their Jeeps around here unless it is a Wrangler. :JEEPIN:

Ummm, so did my first diff and t-case fluid change tonight since we bought it @ 38K kms. It's now at 125K. I know, I know, what was i thinking. All street, no off-road driving. Both the front diff and the t-case only dropped about 2L of fluid together. Filled front diff with just over 1L 75/90 syn and some Lucas. Old fluid was pretty black and stinky. T-case wasn't too bad, not too dark and dropped what seemed to be close to 2L but when I poured the used oil in the pan into the containers I only recovered 2L of old oil.

Next couple of days I'm changing out fluid in rear diff.

I feel the same way. Just a small lift and a set of fog lights. I think,I've spotted some larger tires before, but nothing like anyone from lost.

Nice jeep by the way. I don't see many white where I am.

Got to take my dash apart since the mode door for the HVAC jammed up. :furious: Even worse is the idiot that designed the dash harness decided to put a takeout for the rt ft ABS sensor and rt ft crash sensor on it that goes through the firewall up into the engine bay so it was either disconnect those two and the HVAC wiring or pull the harness off of the dash.
