Post subject:  KK at the county fair

Went to the Wayne County Fair this weekend in Wooster, Ohio, my hometown. The local dealers set up booths and bring a bunch of cars every year. They, of course, had the new Liberty there.

My first impressions of it were as follows:
- the styling looks nice. its very masculine, and i like that. the headlights are out of proportion though
- interior is really clean and looks very fresh. if you've been in a Nitro, then you've been in an 08 Liberty
- the dang bumpers seem to come down very low, especially the front. the stock approach angles must be horrendous. or maybe im just used to seeing lifted kjs...

here are some pics

I like the taller greenhouse (windows) than the Nitro...

I am sorry but as soon as I see the headlights it turns me off plus no way to really trim the bumpers even when it does get a lift kit

Post subject:  I may catch some heat

Many Many years ago my Dad purchased new a '79 Jeep Grand Cherokee. He was living up near the continental divide in Colorado, for the Colorado Mountains, plowing a 100 yard drive way just to get to the house this was a great ride for this operation. But he and mom decided to take a road trip to Ohio and Northern Virginia, So we swapped vehicals. His land barge for my economical Toyota Celica. While driving this Cherokee I was trulys disapointed in the milage this brute got. Years later a couple of freinds were diving the late 80's to early 90's Cherokee. In all cases I thought nice Family Truckster, but couldn't get over the bigger rides nor the higher milage.
When I bought my '02 Liberty Sport last year I was most impressed with it's smaller exterior size but extreme roominess and creature comforts it provided.
I'm sorry if I disagree with others, but I find the new KK to look like nothing more then an early '80s Cherokee. It needs to be more compact, plus I would rather call AAA then deal with the poor placement of the spare tire. I bought the Liberty because I like the smaller size and the surprising roominess you get inside. the more and more I look at the KK I see an early '80s Cherokee. If I want an oversized overpriced road PIG I'ld buy a Hummer H3. But I love every thing the earlier Libbys offer. The only true advantage I see is the KK situation , might bring our Libertys into the classic and desired status. Increasing the value the rides we truly LOVE.

The KKs aren't that much bigger than the KJs. They look longer because they took the length of the spare on the rear and just made the vehicle itself that length. So in all reality you get more interior room with a similar footprint. I love the KK so far!

I'm rather surprised that they didn't keep the hard rubber bumpers and fender flares for the sport model. Also the lack of a Renegade type model is an indicator that the KK is not targeted towards any kind of off roaders or campers. It would seem that the KJ has been replaced by the new Wrangler 4door in Jeep's lineup,

it looks fat and bloated below the waistline, i guess thats what happens as you age.

looks like they got rid of the pinch weld, but brought the bumpers down lower.

ill stick with my kj.

Why is it that when a auto company comes out with a good smaller car/truck the first thing they do is start making it bigger. The Liberty was fine in size, so they make it bigger. The Thunderbird and Mustang started small, went bigger and then small again. Just seems dumb to me. I don't have a lot of time on trails but it seems that small and short is better than big and long. I feel a lot better now...it's off my chest!

agree with you Terry, every company does it have something good then it gets bigger and bigger, I have owned the first T Birds up to the LARGE ones, owned both the Bobtail Broncos and the big ones Mustangs/ Cougars the same, just dont understand. Of course most times they make them bigger then after a while just stop making all together and start something else because that model was not selling well any more, DUH wonder why? :? :?

the T-Bird is such a good example! started life as a small sports car. then look at it in the 80's and 90's! still 2 door, but basically a road boat...

i like my KJ. no dis to the kk but its not my style. those tires look like they are 10" on that body. seems like youd have to spend double or more just to get it up and the same to mod the bumpers out. if i was in the market and had 23 grand to spend id buy a used kj for 12g's and spend 5g's on fitting it out and still have 6g's to keep. but thats me. 8)

Post subject:  They could make it look more like a jeep...

I get the commander look but they would have been better served my blacking out the chrome around the headlights and driving lights...then it would at least call back to its lineage. I like the back end but miss the spare. Somebody will come up with an after market side or rear full-size spare holder. Another company will come up with a reservefuel tank where the donut went.

Black-outs, spare mounts, reserve tank...Jeep must have had the aftermarket crowd in mind when they built this...

The bumpers just "bug" me...low and thick...

the front bumper is way to thick. also it looks like the rear bumper hangs out more then the kjs. I just really dont like this new liberty, interior looks nice, but everything about the exterior looks like a clone of a nitro and a commander.

Post subject:  What bumper?

Bumper should not be too hard to remedy. I dog walked into my KJ literally and cracked/broke the front bumper as I came to a stop. I did not even knock the dog down...had to replace the entire bumper. It was less than $150. :?

Funny but true story.
