hey kkMonterey, can i ask a favor.... will you measure the distance from the roof line to the top of the slider fold?

Thanks

Sure, but could you dumb down that request? What do you mean by "roof line"? Are you wanting to know the total elevation above the rest of the roof when the canvas is opened up? They say that the roof racks and such aren't compatible w/sky slider. I'm thinking they are compatible, they just don't want you breaking the sky slider by opening it with something blocking it..

Ok, they aren't the best... I had to hold the darn camera with one hand and a crappy tape measure which won't lock in the other... Looks like 7" above the rooftop would clear. Maybe a bit less. The "folds" are very firm. They aren't "floppy" like they may look... Also, the roof runners (the plastic molding running front to back along the sides) have no mounting holes or anything. I'm thinking if you don't have the SS installed they may install a different version of them... A set with mounting holes on top for adding racks, crossbars, etc...

The measurements aren't exactly "NASA" approved, but they give you an idea...

What type of warrenty comes with this? I love the idea, but is sounds like headaches down the line. How much does it cost to replace? How often will it need to be replaced? It would be cool if the lifetime warranty for the drivetrain was also for the skyliner..... thoughts what should I do? Oh and can one have racks / rails witht the skyliners?

The warranty breakdown (on MY '08 at least) is as follows:

Powertrain: LIFETIME warranty!! (limited time only, from what I understand) The only catch that I'm aware of is that you MUST go in every 5 years for a "checkup". The "checkup" is free, but I think they just want to look at your jeep, download the computer data (feed it into a database to track useage (engine/trans, 4x4, radio stations, etc...)) and generally make sure you aren't destroying it... This covers the entire driveline (engine, trans, diff's, prop shaft, half shafts, etc). The warranty is NOT transferrable.

Bumper to bumper (all the other stuff including skyslider - radiator, starter, power seats, windows, cruise control, etc): 3 years/36,000 miles. But, GET THIS - the dealer told me that I have until the end of the year to "upgrade" the bumper to bumper warranty. For a cost of about $2,500 I can upgrade the bumper to bumper to LIFETIME!! Imagine that - the ENTIRE vehicle covered for LIFE!!! If I had the disposable $$ I'd do it right now... The warranty is NOT transferrable.

~kk

you can get the lifetime warranty MUCH cheaper from a online dealer. Use https://www.chryslerwarrantys.com/index.cfm

They are Topar Dodge and sell genuine Chrysler Warranties. I used them to bring down the price of the dealer extended warranty. Plus if you just put in your e-mail address to find out how much a extended warranty costs they will send you an e-mail giving you another "Special" discount of about $50-$100 off. I used all this info and brought it to the sales dept when I bought my KK. He said he would match it and also give me the e-mail discount. No sales tax either.

Right now they are offering 7/100,00 max care for $1377, and lifetime $1,749. That's with a $100 ded. I'm not sure what e-mail discount they are offering but at the time I bought mine it was another $100 off. I think I got my 7/100K for $1250 which comes to about $178/yr to cover everything for 7/100K. I did it because of all the electrical components to the KK (MyGIG, nav) and skyslider. I may never use it but it's peace of mind that it's covered for prety much the life of the vehicle. I'm sure I'll buy a different vehicle in about 7 years.

Again...I never purchased the warranty from the website, I just used them for comparison info so that the dealer "could" match. If they couldn't then I would have bought through the website. I did the exact same thing with my wife's odyssey. The online warranty was about 1/2 of what the dealer quoted me and he said he couldn't match. I bought through the website and they sent me all the official documents overnight to sign and within 3 weeks I had the "genuine american honda" warranty.

I looked and tried out both KK's before I bought my KK in Nov.'07, Personally I think the skyslider is good on paper but not in real world functiionality. I think the skyslider looks stupid, and yeah ride is sharp, but what is with all the bling, it's not an escalade, its a jeep, give it, its diginity back. Talk about overkill!!

How can something that's black and canvas like be bling, where's the shiny effect to get bling? I guess that's your opinion on what looks stupid. I know a lot of people on here that like the skyslider. I didn't want to get a wrangler so the next best thing to being "open air" is the sky slider. I can guess you are one who doesn't like change.

I noticed something when I bought my sons car in for service. I saw a 08 Liberty with Sky Slider and they were putting in a new head liner, they were taking it out of the box. Something tells me there's a leak on some of these sliders. Don't know how many are leaking but this one had to be.
