All-Terrain Tires

I just got my KK two weeks ago and as usual I have to check everything about it (A good reason to join this forum) and was investigating the so-called All-Terrain Goodyear SR-A tires as called on the sheet. Why is it at the Goodyear site they are not all-terrain, but all-season. Sounds like someone is stretching the truth on that option.

yep... the tires the equip the kk with are cheap in my opinion... best thing you could do for your self, is go out and get some real tires...just my .02

Those same tires came on my '06 KJ Renegade and the window sticker does say "all season" and not "all terrain." They're crappy tires, but they're not the worst I've ever driven. BFG makes a tire - the Rugged Trail - that Toyota like to use on their off-road packages. Those tires are crap. They have no self-cleaning ability whatsoever. They get stuck in the slightest bit of snow or mud. The SR-As have served me relatively well, but they certainly don't perform miracles and they're definitely not all-terrain tires.

I have 30k on my SR-As and it looks like I'll get another 20k out of them before they're shot. I have a matching spare wheel, so I rotate all 5 tires every 6k. I think that has helped.

Go with Bridgestone Revo's AT Duelers, Had four sets of them and great ride, mileage, self cleaning, puncture resistant and great snow mud ice traction. Just my opinion though and personal use of these tires. GY SRA's ar terrible, if you want to stuck then these tires will help you right along.

Thanks for the input. I saw the Duelers at Firestone this weekend. Look pretty good but it will be awhile before the budget allows that. BTW, I found that the SR-As do have all-terrain on the sidewall.

Your right the GY SRA's do have AT listed on sidewall, but those sidewalls are very weak and slippery in in mud and snow, they just dig in.

I wonder what their definition of "All Terrain" is? I've had 4 flats and a ruined tire on mine so far. The last was when I was on a dirt road over in Nevada last month. The tire got two punctures in the tread area, and it was not a bad road. I think that tire has 4 patches on it now, so I need to replace it with my spare. My spare is a new one that I had to buy because it was ruined at 8,000 miles by running of a small piece of metal in the road. I'm sure that piece of metal had been there all darn day long and 10,000 other tires ran over it with no problem. Not my GY's though, it chewed one of them up and spit it out. That was on a cold rainy night when I was going to the gym with nothing on but a T-Shirt and work-out shorts. After that, I'm a firm believer that the spare under the car is probably better than on the rear door. At least I could stand under the rear door while I cranked it down and not get wet. :lol:

When I took my KJ in to get the SR-As replaced, the tire shop didn't even ask if I wanted to keep the tires, they just trashed them. :lol:

And they were only maybe 1/3 worn. I didn't want them, that's for sure. Definitely not good tires, and for sure not All Terrains.

The SR-As aren’t even good all-season tires, let alone all-terrain. They’re especially bad in the rain. I’m too cheap to change mine before I have wrung the life out of them. But I can’t wait until I do.
