Post subject:  Trail Rated - Revisited
So I keep seeing everyone talking about some of the KK Limited's that don't have a trail rated Rim or Tire that don't have the Trail Rated badge on their KK.

I keep seeing all the discussions saying that the reason those KK's don't have a Trail Rated Badge is the tires or rims, or both, or whatever.

My KK Sport has the Trail Rated badge on it. However, the tires on it are P225/75/16. The P stands for Passenger tire rated, as far as I know.

Why do they put cheap booty tires on a Jeep and call it Trail Rated?

I'm over here visiting my old stomping grounds in Nevada, and driving on some dirt roads. Guess what? My 4th flat tire on my KK. I can't wait to get rid of these cheap tires, they are useless.

Love the pictures ! I have the same Jeep with the Red Rock paint. I wasn't sure if I like the color, but It's looks great on someone else's Jeep. I guess I like the paint now. It seems to change color with the light.

Wow, 4 blown tires???? I was one of the guys that got the 18" wheels without realizing that they are not trail rated. I seem to recall reading some other posts about another sport with 16"s that kept blowing out. Are the tires really that cheap? The tires that came on my KJ's never blew out. I have the same color too, it looks really nice.

You know what you will probably like... the michelin ltx m/s.... right now, im running 4 e rated ones and i love them....im getting 16.5 in the city and 20+ on the highway... I will post later how im doing this good....oh and on a side note, im running them at 65 and have full contact when i do a chalk test...

While a load range E tire will be virtually indestructible, it's probably overkill on a KK. I think you can get by with a quality load range C tire, or possibly even a good quality P tire, depending on how much your flex out your Jeep, putting stress on the sidewalls and how much puncture risk you put your sidewalls in. "Good quality" is the operative term here. OE GoodYears are not good quality.

When you put load range E tires on your KK, you're adding a crap-ton of unsprung weight to a stock suspension systems that's just not meant to handle it. You're talking about putting something like a 55lb tire where the Jeep was designed to hold less than 40 lbs.

Take a peek at Cooper Discoverer S/Ts. They offer this tire in load range C, D, E and also as a STD P-metric tire. They look good, too, being more aggressive than your average A/T tire. I've researched a bunch and I plan to put a set of the P-metric tires on my KJ and the Cs on my Tacoma.

not 4 blown out tires... I've had 4 flat tires, including one that was basically a blow out that ended in me having to replace that tire at 4,000 miles..

This past weekend over in Nevada, we had 2 holes in one tire simply from driving off road on a dirt road....

digger...do you know what the max pressure is on the TPMS sensor? I'm pretty sure they max out at 50...

65 lbs of pressure does your KK weigh in at 12,500 lbs or what? Wow too high of pressure

well.. talking about fuel mileage.. on the trip to Nevada, we got 21+ MPG using California gas. On the trip back on the exact same road, we got 24.1 using Nevada gas.

I also had a Check Engine Light come on while we were out in the mountains, but it cleared itself. Does the computer hold the codes? I guess I should have the dealer scan it.

Thats what im running right now for testing...im still trying to find what the kk likes... a few things i can tell you are...it likes 87...so far it has been 1 to 2 mgp better than 85...2500 rpm seems to be the most fuel efficient rpm...a little acetone sure helps to...once im done with my findings, i will post what i feel is the best combination

Lots of people did that. I was living at 7500. Everytime you go through there, the computer has to change A/f ratio slightly. it still sets off a code, but it goes back. My srt was doing that for a while, but the dealer just said it was normal, unhook the battery for 10 mins, and it will go away.
Like back in the day. they had to rebuild carborators for high altitude, they would flood them, or starve them, I don't know which. but yes, it is normal. we got to the point of just leaving the light on, and cheking the codes once a week to see if any new ones came about.

Very nice - looks just like mine which I got from the dealer which I've been putting off putting it on. :shock:

Does anyone know if there is any prep that needs to be done, or is it just peel and stick on? I'm assuming the surface needs to be as clean as possible, and moderately warm (i.e. not frozen). Anything else I should consider? The Liberty looks good even without the badge - I don't want to screw it up and wreck the paint or something.
