You need to go back to scottsbluff. 20 mpg that is crazy. never seen it.

Why are the averages so low? My other suv not a jeep and is 15 years old with just over 230,000 miles gets an average of 17mpg and if I take it for a trip I get 20-21. When it was new it got 18-19 and 23-24 this is a 4.3 vortex? The jeep is only 5" longer and has a 3.7 liter? Lets here more about what people are getting and where you live. I live in the LA area so no hill areas for me. I want a 2008 KK so bad need to wait about 2-3 more months.... |

Thanks for in info. Do you or anyone know if cold weather like this has a big effect on mpg? What size are your tires? As it does look like you had 16-17 then it dropped down to 13-14 with those tires. Hmmm |

yeah the cold weather has some what of an effect.. because colder air is more dense, there is a point at which the engine has to inject more fuel to compensate for the colder air. I also went from the passenger rated wangler to a e rated bfgoodrich TA KO as my summer tire. so far, my mileage is 15.5 to 16.5 in the city.since i switched to a e rated michelin ltx m/s highway tire. because i have only had the new muffler on for a week, i don't have any real numbers yet. Now, all of my miles are mostly city miles which are 9 at 6 am in the morning and 9 back home at 3:30 in the afternoon. My weekend driving usually is a trip to wally mart and to a pet store or two. very rarely do i travel the high way at this time. the few long trips on the highway have netted me 21.5 from my last to see the lizard in Colorado springs.. |

Engine not to temp is the biggest killer of mpg. If you do mostly shorter city trips mpg will suffer for sure. |

actually, colder air will develop more horsepower in your enginer... that's why they make cold air intakes
I'd guess that your mileage is the way you drive the car. I know my wife seems to get very poor MPG, I'm always getting on her about her jack rabbit starts and the way she drives around corners. She scares me at times

The engine gets to temp just not for very long 
oh and yes, cold air is good, but only to a certain temp..in the really cold temps, more fuel is being injected |

I dunno, cold air has more oxygen in it than warm air. The engine O2 sensor and computer should be able to adjust properly. what part of Colorado are you located in? I wonder if elevation may have some bearing on your mileage. However, I got some good mileage from Fallon, NV, which is about 4,000 feet up over Carson Pass, which is 8,800 feet coming back home last month. I think we got 24.5, if I recall correctly. I still think a LOT of the fuel mileage depends on the additives they put in the fuel. California gas is junk, Nevada gas gets much better mileage for me. And I've noticed that on my 04 KJ and my 08 KK. |

I agree with the gas additives...during the winter, they do a 10% oxygenated fuel mix and it kills mileage... my usual elevation is about 5000 feet or so |

For what it's worth, I find if I don't let my KK warm up for at least 3-5 minutes the engine sounds like it's racing when I come out of the driveway. The RPMs are around 2,000 and there is a fan noise something awful that is almost overwhelming. That lasts a couple of blocks then goes away. |

We are averaging 21-23mpg.  Wife drives daily 26 miles to work one way. Of course she isn't driving the interstate and taking the county road to get this. Gotta save somehow. Haven't hit the red mark yet and have close to 400 miles on the tank.

Cold Air is good for power...Cold Engines hurt mpg...Cold Climates keep engines colder for longer periods of time and hurt mpg. Did you adjust your miles traveled for the larger tires? Has anyone with a KK used the Highway Mileage Markers to check the accuracy of the Odometer? |

I've used my little work GPS that uses WAAS enhancement and it seems to be very accurate. |
