| Post subject: | Reverse Mirror Tilt? |
Okay, I hate to do this, but on another Jeep forum, the following post was made: Quote: If you have the MyGIG® Multimedia System with GPS Navigation feature the service dept. at your local Jeep dealership can activate it for you. I just recently purchased an '08 Liberty and when I got it home I realized that the video playback feature for the DVD system while in PARK was disabled. I could hear the audio but there was no video. When I took it back to the dealer to correct this issue he was able to turn on the feature of tilting the mirrors down when the vehicle is moved into REVERSE. I have since added small blind spot mirrors as well.
The post was in response to a few people who swear up and down that the Liberty has the ability to have the mirrors tilt down slightly in reverse. However I have never heard of such a thing until the person posted the above comment. I've posted a follow-up question but with no response in a week. Can anyone comment - does the KK have this ability? Has anyone else heard of it or seen it in action? I'm curious about it, however I don't know that I'd want it all the time; I'd rather have the option of turning it on or off myself as I wanted to like the backup sensors, etc. |

Maybe only on Limiteds? I know 300Ms, some Concordes, and the LX cars have done it since earlier this century. |

I've read the manual more than a couple of times and there is nothing in there about it. I'd think that Jeep would market this if the vehicle had it, rather than leaving it to a dealer update. I'm inclined to think it's a joke, but I thought I'd throw it out there in case others have heard of it. |

I'm still waiting to hear back on details, but apparently it's true - it is possible to have the side mirrors automatically tilt on the KK when the vehicle is in reverse. Having never needed this feature before I'm not sure whether I'd need/want it now, but I thought I'd let others know. I'm curious what other undocumented and as yet undiscovered options exist on this beast! I'm assuming you need Premium Group I which has the memory seats/radio/mirrors, but apparently it's just a simple upgrade to have the mirror-tilt enabled. |

I have no idea but I would guess in addition to the memory seats/mirrors, you may need the back-up/reverse park assist option... |

At least the current model Grand Cherokee/Commander has the ability to do this. It is however not enabled from the factory you need the "StarScan" tool to turn it on. |

I frist experienced the auto-angled mirrors in an Audi S4. That was a great car! Anyway, it's actually a really helpful little aid in daily-driving. It might be less helpful off road, but it's really nice in a parking lot when you're backing into a space. That's cool that the KK can do it, but WTF...why would they put it on there and not enable it? |

i gotta admit - i have manually turned the mirrors down when doing some "precise" parking... it would be great to have the option to enable that... it's beginning to sound like the libby is hal9000.... and you know what comes with that... "i'm sorry dave. i'm afraid i can't do that." "..." "Just what do you think you are doing, dave?"... |

An update to this for those who aren't aware... It is confirmed that yes, it is possible to enable the side mirrors to tilt down when the vehicle is in reverse. The Liberty must have the memory seats/mirrors option installed (not sure if that means it has to be a Limited). It's just a quick update (2 mins) of the memory seat module (MSM) on the Star Scan. The option is under Miscellaneous, although I don't know what the specific option name is called. I'm surprised this feature hasn't been better documented/promoted. It makes me wonder what other bells and whistles are waiting to be enabled (or disabled). Thanks to MerlinTec in the JeepForum for confirming. I haven't had my Liberty updated yet but I think the next time I need to take it into the dealership where I bought it I'll see if they'll enable it for free. (The Jeep dealership down the street wanted $40 to do it - I said no thanks.) |

Very cool. Why in the world would they have a great feature like that and not tell anyone about it? Good snooping and Godspeed getting it done for free. |

So, I'm wondering what all the options are on Star Scan that we don't know about yet |

Yes it can be done. I had my 08 Limited in for oil change and the A/C fix. I asked them to do the reverse tilt and they did it for me for no charge. |

Very nice. Do you like it? I've never had it before and would probably find it a little getting used to. I'm glad they did it for free for you. I think if they are going to have a feature like that available they should either make it user-selectable through the EVIC or not charge to update the setting. Sometime when I have the time to waste and feel like getting half an answer I'd love to ask Jeep why they have a useful feature like this completely buried. As I - and others - have asked in this thread: what else is buried in the Star Scan codes that users (and techs) don't know about? For all I know I have an airplane/submarine option just waiting to be enabled! |

Still got to get used to it.... Yes I was nervous when you stated that the stealership wanted to charge you $40 to enable it. I'd be curious if your dealer that you bought the vehicle from would do it for free. |

Why would you only want one? |

I have an 2008 and took it to the dealer to have to added. The dealer said sure no problem... Then when i picked it up they said they could not. The gave me a laim reason, my fully loaded KK did not have memroy mirrors. i then pointed out I had the Premuin 1 and 2 options and the seat memory and even should him then number 1 and number 2 seat options and how the mirrors change between users. I dropped it at that, and porved to me the dealer is a dillweed and needs to pull his head out of the weeds. < this was edited> I want this feature turned on as I like having all the help i can get parking. But untill I get a print out of each step on the star scan tool I am up the creek without a paddle for now. |

It's actually in relation to the memory seat option I believe. I had it done to my KK and it works like a champ. I love this feature. The dealer wanted to charge me $50, but then waived the fee since I also had an oil change and tire balancing performed. |
