How many here are getting the free year with the Sirius radio stations? How much to keep it? I like the Gold Pop and 60's, 70's music. I was listening to the Gold pop and heard songs I haven't heard in many years. Anyone have this, Like it, Not like it? |

I like the Sirius satellite radio. My brother in law has XM with his vehicle and I was hoping my new vehicle would use XM rather than Sirius. My stereo receiver at home uses XM and I haven't activated it but I figure having 1 subscription 2 radios would be cheaper than 2 subscriptions. Anyway, as for the programming, I like Sirius. A good lineup as far as I'm concerned although I probably will never listen to at least half of the channels, but that's okay. I have found so far though that unless I happen upon a program (e.g. Car Talk on NPR, or a comedy routine, or an old time radio show) I am flipping around almost as much as I would on a regular radio. And commercial free isn't quite what I thought it would be. Some stations have real commercials, but most if not all will cross-promote itself or other channels. Better than commercial FM radio, but not quite the continuous music one might expect the first time they listen to subscription radio. Also, I probably only listen to the radio maybe 2 hours a week and even then it seems like I hear repeats more than I'd expect. On the 80s channel for example, I often hear the same song twice in a week. I guess there are only so many decent songs from the 80s worth playing, but still. Oh well, that's why I have the MyGig - I can always listen to that when I'm tired of flipping around. How my parents lived with only AM/FM radio I'll never know! |

How my parents lived with only AM/FM radio I'll never know! that's because of two things.... those formats/channels on Sirius have a very small song library of mostly hit songs, and/or the person doing the music scheduling doesn't know how to set up their rules properly in their scheduling software. I'm guessing it's because of a small song library. |

I have since each car has either sirius or xm. My wife and I both like sirius much better. Other than the glenn beck show that comes on XM during a time we can both listen we prefer Sirius. |

Gimme, I got a laugh when you said how did my parents listen to Am/Fm only. When I started to drive at 16 there was only AM, WMEX with Woo Woo Ginsberg was the best. Fm had one channel which had just started which was ROR and it had a robot doing the anouncing rather than a DJ, but most cars didn't have an FM radio in them anyway. The year was 1966, and I had a blast in the sixties and was in a rock band at the time. The sixties were outstanding years to be a teen. |
