Post subject: | Powder Coating stock KK wheels |
So I just picked up my KK this past Friday (picture below). I want to get black rims for it, but after realizing how much it will cost, I had a friend recommend powder coating the stock wheels. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Pros/cons? ![]() |

I'd love to see how it turns out and at what cost. Hope you go through with it and let us know how they turned out, cost and some pictures. |

I was quoted at $50 a wheel. It is a guy who is just trying to start up his shop and wants people to get the word out . . . which seems to be working. I told my buddy to send me some pics of his Honda Element that he had done . . . I will post them here if I get them. |

![]() Good deal, and Powder Coating works great for a street rig, but if you plan on wheeling it at all (?) it chips off fairly easily. |

Yeah, I don't think I'll be doing much wheeling. My off road activities are pretty much going to be limited to snow and the beach. So I am not overly concerned about it chipping. The only thing I am not 100% sure on, is the fact that I really like the stock wheels, and I don't want to regret the decision. However, I am fairly confident it will look good with black. |

maybe have him try it on the spare to see if you like it. If you don't at least you didn't ruin all four wheels. |

Or you could spend $50 per wheel and get some Cragar Soft8 black steelies. Heck, I'm going to have a set for sale soon. I have a set sitting in the garage and another in the mail coming to me. Is the KK the same bolt pattern as the KJ? |

Ha ha. I feel like I just need someone else to convince me. The only problem I have is the process takes about 5 days. I need to mount and unmount my tires. Maybe I can borrow a car . . . |

Do it! And then post pictures. ![]() I want new tires for my KK, and would love to move up to 17" wheels but it's not in the budget. Painting or powder coating the stockers would be an option, I'm already tired of seeing other KK's that look just like mine. |

Now I am seeing 10 a day . . . Does anyone know how much it will cost me to get the tires dismounted then remounted? I am trying to figure out how to deal with not having wheels for 5 days. I was thinking of buying some steelies, but seems like a silly expense to use for 5 days (plus mounting and dismounting). |

Most shops charge around $20 per tire. I'm a tires/parts wholesaler, and even I still get charged $10 each by my customers! No such thing as free labor. ![]() Just make sure the shop is aware you want to have them dismounted, then come back a week later to have them installed again. Hopefully they wouldn't charge you any more for that. |
