Debadging your Liberty how to

I figured id share some info maybe someone will find it useful

debadge

1. get some goo be gone or 3m adhesive remover and fishing line

2. apply the product in moderate amounts as needed to coat the letter/ badge 360 degrees

3. start sawing your way into the 3m tape but dont do this to fast because you can burn your badge or melt the fishing line into the car and thats bad news lol

4. remove the 3m tape and goo be gone the rest of the adhesive off

5. wash thoroughly if this is not done you can ruin your paint

DO NOT USE A BLOWDRYER ITS NOT NEEDED AND IT CAN CRACK YOUR PAINT

Yep debadged is an awesome look but I honestly doubt a hair dryer will crack your paint. Lets remember the surface of cars reach much hotter temperatures than a hair dryer can ever get it.

well on a new car no i should have been more spacific i used a hairdryer on my first car 1992 cavalier when i was 16 and it bubbled and soon after cracked darn i miss that pos lol aint nothin like your first car even if it is a pile of junk but still i wouldent use a blowdryer waist of electricity anyway

Have done over a dozen vehicles using a hair dryer and NONE of them had any paint problems, how hot do you think a say KJ/KK gets sitting in Phoenix middle of the summer, lots hotter than a hair dryer. So do not scare people because you messed up somehow, it works just fine.
and also its not a waist of electricity its a waste :roll:

when i did it it was on a 94 cavalier that had been threw a million pittsburgh winters in pittsburgh we like to salt the hell out of are roads because theres nothing but hills so thats why it happend on that car but as far as new i guess you would be fine but i still dont like hair dryers they can damage your paint take a hair dryer and hold it on your car for five min and see what happens i sure wont but yeah you can use one if you wanted but what the point..........

I did mine with a card (old interac card) and a hair drier. It worked great.

The trick with the hair dryer is to just get them warm and then peel them off with your fingers, nothing else is needed. I have done it on Fords, Chevrolets, Jeeps, Dodges all work the same, or even a really hot day you can walk up and start peeling letters off of some cars :lol:

Of course now if you hold a hair dryer right on the paint for 5 minutes then something stupid will happen, a couple of minutes is enough.

HHHMMMMM.................

I've debaged hundreds of vehicles from working at a bodyshop,tearing down to fix and prep/paint.I always used a 3000watt heat gun and never had a problem,just got to be smart about it.Never used any chemicals either since those adhesive removers and such where not allowed in the bodyshop.Used a pin stripe remover wheel in a dril to remove all remaining double sided tape,worked like a charm.

And yes it matter if I screwed up the paint even if I was painting the panal anyway.

as far as heat gun blow dryer goes do what you want just trying to share an opinion

still gana paint my emblems flat black though lol, im gana put them on the rear side panels and leave the 3.7 L on the back but change it to flat black matches the theme of my jeep

umm..yes?? lol i just put 3m adhesive remover and flossed away til they popped off, then used the adhesive remover on the left over 3m. worked pretty well

now im just painting them but only painted the 3.7 L emblem so far but i wana know if i should sand them 1st? i applied 2 coats primer to the 3.7 L and 2 clear coats "clear matte"

after you take em off use like 1000 grit wet is prolly your best bet use water and scuff them lightly so that not much chrome is shiny

How do you reapply them? what will you use? 3m?

got a 3m tape roll from pep boys, cut some pieces off. Placed the 3m on the back of each emblem then cut the shape out with a safety blade (new razor blade is a must for ease). Then lay emblems flat on newpaper, Spray the color you want ( I just used primer 2 coats with 2 clear coats Matte finnish) wait for them to dry 5min between coats. then just got a magnetic straightedge and leveled my emblems out
